Kandui Surf Resort in the Mentawai island chain; June 13th surf report
Got back from Padang this morning. Our new swell was filling in throughout the day and there was a pretty stiff south wind that blew all day as well. Our guests went to Beng Beng around mid morning. It was handling the wind and the low’ish tide. There were a few other guys out, but there were a lot of waves and the swell was building so our crew had a good time. In the afternoon, we were hoping for Kandui’s but the wind stayed too south. But Hideaways is not a bad second choice! Hideaways was handling the south wind well and conditions were pretty good. The swell was looking good too with waves going double-overhead plus on the sets, and 4 or 5 or more waves in a set. Because it was the best wave around this afternoon there was bit of a crowd on it, but there seemed to be a lot of people just floating around and a there were plenty of set waves for anyone that wanted one. The crowd thinned out and there were only a handful of us surfing in the late afternoon. It was a really fun session. I’m stoked to be back here in the Mentawais! Expecting the swell to slowly taper down tomorrow, but hoping for some more bombs in the morning.
