Kandui Surf Resort in the Mentawai island chain; June 18th surf report
Winds were blowing out of the north again this morning, but not as hard as yesterday and weather was all right. Our guys headed for Nipusi. There were a few guys on it because it was one of the few places working, but our guys got some fun waves in the overhead surf and had a good time. The sun was out and it was a beautiful day until late afternoon when the rain returned. On the plus side, the winds went a little more west also and 4 Bobs was again the call. It was a little smaller than yesterday, but still fun. Expecting smaller surf tomorrow, but hoping for better conditions.

The swell was looking bigger today. But the winds were blowing pretty hard out of the northwest and it was raining, so no one was looking very interested in looking for surf. It was one of those rare days that the weather just did not let up and we spent a lot of time hanging out in the restaurant watching a lot of video that we have taken these last big swells. Could have been worse. We could have been looking at the inside of a boat the whole day! Finally the winds turned a little more west (offshore) and 4 Bobs was looking pretty good all of a sudden. I saw a set of about 7 waves come through at about shoulder high. Minutes later our guys were on it and they got over an hour in before it got dark. Not a bad little session to end the day. Looking for smaller surf tomorrow.

The ocean was really glassy this morning, but the winds came up quickly out of the north. We were hoping our new swell would be showing today, but it wasn’t looking very promising out front. Last Resort’s is always good for a wave and no crowds, and the winds were offshore there, so the boys (and girls on this trip) were on it. It was about head high or so out there and it was just the 5 of them out. They had some fun and then came in for some lunch. Just after they came in it started pouring rain so most of us just hung out. Our 2 new guests were frothing a little and they decided to brave the downpour and went to Nipusi. There were a few people on it there, but our guys were just stoked to be in the warm water and beautiful location, and they ended up getting a couple of nice waves for their effort. Hoping for that latest swell to start showing tomorrow.
