Kandui Surf Resort, Mentawai islands. July 15 surf report It’s nice to be back on the island after a short stint in Padang. There are a few pro girls staying with us right now from Billabong. We have Rebecca Woods, Silvana Lima, Sanoe Lake, and Keala Kennelly, and D Hump is here taking photos. We also have Dave Rastavich and his wife here as well, so it should be a fun week or so. Today there was a little swell in the water and the winds were out of the southeast at about 10 to 15 mph. Our guys went to Beng Beng where it was glassy and about shoulder high. There were only 3 others out and they did not stay long so our crew had it to themselves most the time. The girls surfed 4 Bobs were the wind was not quite right, but the waves were a little bigger and the lighting and everything was good for photos. In the afternoon the winds died and we thought we would give Nipusi a look to see if we could find some bigger waves. It was up to 4 feet overhead there and the conditions were good. We lucked out again because there were only 3 guys out and they left before we got our first wave. We surfed a few hours and were pretty much exhausted when another boat showed up, so we left it for them. It was a 4 Bobs afternoon for anyone that still had the energy to surf. Looking for a little smaller surf tomorrow.
Kandui Surf Resort, Mentawai islands. July 16th surf report The wind was out of the southeast again this morning. The waves were looking a bit smaller. Our guys went back to Beng Beng and got some clean, chest high waves with no one out again. They surfed it for quite a while, then called it quits for the day. The girls skipped surfing today to help out our local people here and went to one of the local villages with Dr. Dave from surf aid. Very nice. Everyone conserved their energy for the rest of the day, looking forward to the swell that is due to arrive tomorrow.
