Kandui Surf Resort in the Mentawai island chain; July 5th surf report The ocean was nice and glassy again this morning. A quick look up and Rifles showed our swell had gotten bigger overnight. The sets were 3 or 4 feet overhead up there and we were on it! It wasn’t classic Rifles, probably a 5 on a scale of 1-10, but it really hadn’t broken in quite a while so it was nice just to be out there with some real water moving. The winds came up a little from the southeast and most of our crew went to check out Kandui’s. The swell wasn’t as big over there, probably a couple of feet overhead on the biggest sets, but conditions were good and it was still barreling. We surfed both spots until afternoon. The tide was pretty low in the afternoon so we surfed John Candy’s and 4 Bobs then. Both spots were overhead and the ocean pretty much turned to oil late in the afternoon. Very nice. Hoping our swell will not drop too much tomorrow.
Kandui Surf Resort in the Mentawai island chain; July 4th surf report . It was another day of great conditions. Glassy all day and a south swell was beginning to fill in. Our crew hit Hideaways first while the tide was high and got some head high plus waves. After the tide got a little low, they headed off to E-Bay and Pitstop’s to get a few waves there before going to Beng Beng which is good at low tide. Waves were fun where ever they went and conditions were good. They got back for late lunch then had time to get some head high plus 4 Bobs in before dark. Expecting our newest swell to fill in more over night.
