Bali School Support Program

Hello friends and thanks for taking the time to check out our school support program.

This is whats happening, I have found an area of Bali up in the foot hills of Mt Agung that seems to have been forgotten by any support foundation. I have visited the school and talked with the head master and teachers and they operate on a shoe string. They don’t charge school or book fee’s because if they did they wouldn’t have any students attend due to financial situation of the parents. All the kids walk to school as 90% of the parents don’t even own a motor bike to get them there. There’s no paved roads and the kids walk through the bush for upto 4 Km’s to attend, usually bare footed or in rubber thongs.

There’s a tonne of stuff we could help the school out with but I think the first priority would be getting them hooked up with electricity. The nearest point where they could start to run a cable from is around 2km’s from the school. The Head Master has estimated that it would take around Rp10,000,000.00 (AU$1,300.00) to get all the cables and wiring in place.

This I know the school could not achieve on it’s own. I’m hoping that between baliwaves.com and some kind hearted viewers we can raise this amount by the time school starts back up for 2008.

I’m going to run this support program personally so I know that every cent donated will go directly to the school and not be divied up between office / administration costs by any other organisation.

All the labor needs will be supplied by the childrens families and local Balinese. I will be personally making the 3 hour motor bike ride up to the school at the end of each month to deliver our contributions and to bring you guys back progress reports on how we are doing

Here’s a few of the things that we are going to try and achieve. Financially we have already received enough contributions from you guys to start and hopefully complete our first objective.

Objective # 1:  To get the school hooked up to electricity.

(Update 1: Funds handed over for Electricity)

Objective # 2:  Water pump and piping for water tank

Objective # 3: Repairing the wall and fixing the gate surrounding the school to keep out loose farm animals.

(Update 3: Initial Funds handed over and Electricity Supply On)
(Update 4: School Wall has commenced construction)
(Update 5: IBM Gives Computers to Datah Primary School)

Objective # 4: The laying of paving stones in the school assembly area.

Objective # 5: Basic English / Indonesian dictionaries for the students.

(Update 2: 100 Dictionaries Provide for Datah School)

Objective # 6: Purchasing of a small basic lap top computer / printer for the school Principal to help streamline administration.

Thanks again crew and I’m sure that our efforts can help the children of this school for years and years to come. If you would like to be part of this worthy cause please don’t hesitate to send me an email through our “CONTACT” link.
