Kandui Surf Resort, Mentawai islands: September 6th surf report It was looking smaller in front of the resort this morning. The wind was blowing out of the south, but not very strongly. Everyone seemed content to hang out around the resort in the AM hours. A few of the guys braved the blazing late morning sun to get a surf out at Karabat Left and 4 Bobs. In the afternoon we sent a boat to Nipusi. It had a case of cold Bintang on board in case the surf was too bad. Nipusi was overhead on the sets and only two other guys were out. It was a little bumpy with the south winds, but it was worth the go out and the crowd was cut down early by the cooler of beer in the boat. They got back early enough to get some happy hour time in. We got our new barbeque grill in and we put it to the test tonight. It passed with flying colors. Fish, chicken, and beef. Yum! Looking at probably an almost flat day tomorrow.
Kandui Surf Resort, Mentawai islands: September 5th surf report The swell was looking smaller today. The winds were out of the south. No one was in a big rush to look for surf after all the waves we got the last couple of days. About mid morning we sent out a boat. The tide was getting high enough to check Hideaways so we stopping in to check it. We really didn’t expect to see much with the angle of the swell being so south and the swell dropping like it was, but sure enough there were some pretty good waves there. It was shoulder to head high and the conditions were ok. There were only a couple of other guys out so there were plenty of waves for everyone. Eventually another boat showed up so we pulled anchor and went to check out Pitstop’s. It was looking pretty flat so we went up on the beach and brought some drinks and snacks and just hung out. It’s a really nice beach. No one was out and we could see the occasional chest high set coming in once in a while. After a while some of the guys got pulled out there and got pretty fun waves while the rest of us did some exploring and stuff. By the time we left, the tide was getting pretty low so we thought we would give Beng Beng a look. There was no one out there and the conditions were good so we went out for one more session. It was about shoulder high and everybody got some fun ones. We didn’t get back until after 5! Looking at smaller surf tomorrow.
