****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE****
Howdy folks and thanks for hanging around for the latest info on todays surfing and weather conditions from here on the holiday island of Bali.
Ok this morning I was down the beach with Scotto doing the morning surf recon of the Outer Reefs and there was plenty to check out indeed with our new swell arriving right on track. Wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport Left was ranging between 4-6ft (that’s head high plus to double head high plus). Scott had his camera gear ready to go so he opted for photos at Kuta Reef (as ya’s can see in these current photos) and I opted for a video session down at Padang Padang.
Here’s what Scott had to say from his perspective on Kuta Reef; WOW!!! What a magnificient sight down at the beach this morning. White water, white water, white water, the outer reefs were finally doing what they are known for. It was not perfect and the waves sometimes were a little bit hit and miss but what an excellent change. The first real swell to hit beautiful Bali since my arrival and I hope to be getting a bit more action before it all ends.
Kuta reef became my destination of choice after about an hour of debating about what would be the pick of the spots to shoot. An abundance of swell will play tricks on your mind sometimes. so I just went with what was right in front of me. Kuta reef was breaking in the 3-5ft range. The bigger sets starting to do that double suck thing that surfers looking to get shacked dream about.
The locals were ruling again taking the pick of the waves and pulling in at every oppurtunity. There was around 40+ people in the water and there was definetly some carnage when the sets hit. It was amazing to see waves going through unridden with so many surfers out there, but it did happen and reguarly. If you were patient & sat in the right spot there was plenty of waves for everyone.
OK well hopefully we will get a couple of days out this current swell so stay tuned as we bring you the latest and best surf info to come out Bali. Cheers, Scott.
While mean while down at Padang Padang I was still waiting for surfing conditions to improve. On arrival at 9.30am wave height was breaking in the 3-5ft range but the wind was light on-shore coming outta the SSW @ 4-6knot. Then around 11.00am the wind finally swung to the ESE-SE and off-shore. There was only about a dozen surfers in the water at PP and I’d have to admit 70% of them were riding bodyboards. Anyway I managed to shoot 11 minutes of DV for ya’s so I’ll get onto editing and loading it up ASAP.and ya can see for your self what it was like.
The top end of Impossible’s Reef was also producing plenty of waves for the 20+ surfers that chose to surf out there and I did watch one surfer ride a wave for at least 200yrds before kicking out. Looking down towards Bingin and I could see a pack of at least 25 surfers bunched together so there must have been some action happening down there as well. Talking to one of the Uluwatu ex-pats who was also checking out Padang Padang and he reckoned Uluwatu was breaking in the 6-8ft range but with a lot of water moving and only 5 surfers braving the conditions.
Our daily sms surf report from the G-land Surf Camp read of solid 6ft+ waves hitting Kongs and Money Trees with only one surfer in the water at 7.00am. I also had a sms report from Lakey Peak over on the island of Sumbawa that said Lakey Peak was pumping through double head high set waves for the boys.
Ok thats all ya’s are getting for now… I’ve got video to edit. So stay tuned to the one and only original baliwaves.com if you wanna know whats happening around these parts of Indo.
Cheers
Slim
