Kuta Reef to Airport Left + G-Land / 11th May ’09

****MORNING SURF REPORT****

Good morning crew and welcome back to your baliwaves.com eye’s on the surfing and weather scene here on the happy little holiday island of Bali.

Ok first up, yesterday the boys and I from here at Home Base did a pre dawn raid on Balian up on the north western coast. Arriving just after dawn to find wave height a playful 1-2ft+ out the front on the A Frame left and right peak with 6 surfers in the water. The boys opted to get straight out there but I spotted a friend already in the water on his 9’1″ long board, so I waited and hit him up for a ride. It’s been over 25yrs since I last rode a real long board and I have to admit in these small conditions I had a ball walking the nose with a bit of soul arch involved. We never made it back to Tuban until late afternoon so that’s why we never posted a report yesterday, “sorry about that chief”

Back to the present, and this mornings surf check of the Outer Reefs was showing an increase in wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport Left, now breaking in the 1-3ft class compared to yesterdays 1ft division. There were already 3 surfers riding Middle Reef and it didn’t look too bad with the early morning Low tide. At the time Kuta Reef and Airport Left were still in need of a bit more water over the reef but should have a few smallies breaking through mid morning before the tide fills in for a massive 2.7mtr High scheduled for around 11.00am.

Scotto also phoned through from Canggu where he went this morning to try and get us some new photos. But said he couldn’t do anything up there with dark and overcast sky. Wave height at Canggu was also in the waist to head high region. Crowd wise and as usual there were at least 50+ surfers scattered over the 3 different sections.

Looking for a wave this morning I reckon you could search on either side of the island the way the wind is. Uluwatu, Nusa Dua, Green Bowls and the ever ever popular Keramas would all be producing clean surfing conditions.

The good guys at the Kandui Surf Resort up in the magical Mentawi islands of Sumatra have also sent us through another surf report and photo so you’ll be able to find that on their report page shortly.

Surfing conditions were clean and glassy with no wind wind at all present.

Weather conditions since yesterday afternoon have taken a turn for the worse. Around 4.30pm yesterday the sky blacken’d over and the wind shifted to the North. Then absolutely pissed down rain through till well after 7.00pm. This morning we are left with an overcast sky and drizzling rain. Hopefully the Tradewind will kick in by mid morning and clear the situation up.

Our daily sms surf report from the G-land Surf Camp was calling 2-3ft+ waves breaking at Kongs and their weather conditions are pretty much the same as ours here in Bali. Just a heads up on whats happening over at G-land, in just a few more days time there will be the annual Australian firemans convention in camp with at least 30-40 fireman / surfers hitting it. Their in camp photographer for the G-land Surf Camp has finally sent us some more photos so I’ll get those loaded up on the site ASAP.

I’d also just like to mention that the Dewi Sri “live seafood” restaurant here in Tuban is once again under the control of the original owner and back to serving up the most freshest seafood in Bali. If you want to give it a try tell em baliwaves.com sent ya down to sample a free plate of their live prawns.

I’ll also check out the dollar exchange rates later this morning and give ya’s an up-date on the money scene next report.

If your planning a trip to Bali this year (and I know you are !!) feel free to drop me an email if you want a helping hand organising anything.

Sorry about the tonne of text this morning but it’s all relevent I thinks.

Catch ya
