Macaronis Resort Surf Report – April 30
Hi guys
We are well over due for a report to Bali Waves, sorry about our brief absence there….
We have been still updating our own website surf report on a regular basis (www.macaronisresort.com/reports.php) but we have been saving some thing special for www.baliwaves.com
Actually to be honest, we’ve been surfing our brains out a lot of the time with nobody around…. sorry guys, we’ll keep the reports up to date from here on in, especially as we now have Andrew at the resort to help out as surf guide.
The last month has delivered some mixed swell conditions. After a killer start to the year in early March, we then had a 3 week small wave spell before things picked up again and since then we have had some average to great swell conditions.
In early April we had a crew out from New Jersey, to thaw out a little and score some Mentawai perfection. The boys arrived to some medium sized Macas, but being Easter there were a few other surfers around, so they decided to head north to surf Bintangs and Lances on Indies Explorer with Sony, while I stayed at the resort with remaining guests. They got some fun Bintangs with the prevailing north winds and then some waves at Lances Left the next morning.
But unfortunately they missed some epic Thunders the next day, which my self and Andrew enjoyed with other guests Brent and Nicky, 4-6 feet glass and breaking perfectly, there were some very juicy barrels to be had indeed down there that day – probably as good as Thunders gets..!!
The New Jersey boys then got Thunders almost as good the next day, before hitting some more Macaronis by the end of their 8 day / 9 night trip. Of course they all wanted to stay longer seeing a thumping swell on its way, but of course changing flights, missing school and all the rest of it, prevented them from doing so.
Must say though, the boys were ripping, and perhaps we might see a few of them around in the future on the professional circuit.
After the New Jersey boys left, we had just one guest arrive, Helen from France, so we were lined up with a solid week of swell with almost no guests in the resort – bit like being all dressed up with no where to go!!
That week (April 17 – 27) we got some large ‘Macas on steroids’ style tubing waves, but unfortunately our photography was a little average that time around as Uwah was testing out his new camera, so he only scored a couple of really good shots. There were maximum 6 of us in the water most of the time and we were actually looking for people to go surfing with, a rarity for the Mentawais!! Waves got to 6 feet plus although the north wind at times made take offs a challenge, but the pit was still a great reward to be had on making the drop.
No snapped boards either, so we were stoked about that considering the conditions. And especially as Bootsy had just given me a nice new 6’1 the week before, which is going great… thanks heaps Bootsy!!
The swell conditions are now small again with a new swell arriving later today / tomorrow. Not supposed to get massive this time around, but should at least serve up some fun waves in the 3-5 feet range for our guests, Marco, Flavio and Rodrigo who are all top guys. Just 6 of us here at the moment, and another 4 guests coming on Tuesday, so it’s all pretty laid back here.
If anybody from Bali or elsewhere is interested in visiting Macaronis Resort, over the next couple of weeks we have just half a dozen guests booked each week over this time, so email me now if your interested, from just US$1350 for an 8 day / 9 night trip OR US$2250 for a 15 day / 16 night trip.
My email is [email protected]
Until the next time, stay safe and hope you are all scoring some great waves where ever you are. We’ll send you another report next week.
Cheers
Mark @ Macas
