****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE****
Hello folks and thanks for waiting around for the latest news on surfing and weather conditions from here on the No.1 surfing holiday destination of Bali. yes a bit later thann usual with todays report as our server had some un-scheduled problems that had us on and off-line through out the morning, but all good again now.
Ok this mornings surf check on the Outer Reefs was showing another decent boost in wave height with 3-4ft+ waves breaking between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. Middle Reef had the best waves through the early part of the morning but as the tide pushed in both Kuta Reef and Airport Left were also producing some decent waves. But by later this afternoon wave height was already backing off and only showing in the 1-3ft range. As you can see in these latest photos from Hendra and his Team, Uluwatu had some solid bombs coming through on the Main Peak. But he also reckoned wave height was dropping off through out the afternoon.
Surfing conditions first up this morning were clean and smooth although with the wind blowing light on-shore out of the West. It wasn’t until late morning that the ESE-SE off-shore Tradewind kicked in, gusting around the 9-14knot range.
Tidal info for today was saying we had a 2.4mtr High @ 11.00am and then another dry reef exposing 0.1mtr Low around 5.30pm.
Weather wise around the Tuban / Kuta part of the island we’ve had a mainly hot and sunny day with the temperature maxing out around the 30 degree Celsius mark.
Swell Forecast; This new system is really only going to get us through till Friday with waves up to 4-6ft, head high plus to double head high plus depending on location. Then on Saturday backing off again. But then again on Sunday next week it looks like we’ll be in for another solid boost with a much larger system moving in on us. Unfortunately this last system has already been down graded but still should be producing some solid waves. Starting to back off through Monday and continuing to drop through Tuesday. Small waves on Wednesday before we start to see another smaller swell fill back in around Thursday.
Sms surf report from the G-Land Surf Camp was calling wave height to have picked up nicely for all the boys and girls over at G-Land. Wave height was breaking in the 4-6ft range peeling off on Money Tree’s but no surfers were in the water yet @ 7.30am
G-land; Ok the 10% discount for the early bookings into the G-Land Surf Camp has finished but I’ve spoken with the boss and he’s still prepared to give anyone who mentions baliwaves.com a 5% discount on standard, twin share and fan bungalows and a 10% discount on their air conditioned bungalows. Just mention baliwaves.com at their office and you’ll get money back in your pocket.
Traffic Up-date, At last we can give the all clear on the traffic scene and it’s almost getting back to being just kaotic and normal. Correction; I made a quick trip into the Kuta / Legian area last night and again this morning and the traffic is still jammed. especially on the beach road (Kuta) and the main street of Legian.
Here’s a few tips for any new visitors, 1/ don’t change your dollars to Rupiah at home, you’ll get a much better rate over here in Bali. 2/ If you need to change dollars at the airport when you arrive only change enough to get you to your hotel. The airport also has lower rates than on the street. 3/ Changing dollars with the money exchanging counters on the streets always use the vendors that display a “no commission fee” sign.
Photo up-Date; My old friend and long time visitor to Bali “Doc” has sent us through a bit of a quick report from Canggu along with a photo. Ray from the Kandui Surf Resort up in the Mentawai islands has also produced another taste of what the waves have been like up in their neck of the woods, and brought us back up to date with a report.
Ok crew have a good one and stay tuned to the one and only original Bali surf report (since ’99)
Best Regards from Bali
Slim
