****MORNING SURF UP-DATE****
Howdy folks and thanks for dropping in to the baliwaves.com for the latest news on surfing and weather conditions here on the ever popular holiday island of Bali.
Here’s some photos from a day at Uluwatu earlier in the year.
Well nothing changed over the weekend, we did see a small pulse of swell on Saturday morning and if you were in the water at sun up you might have scored a few head to head high plus sized waves over on the East Coast. Being before the N-NW wind swung around to the S-SW @ 12-15knot and virtually on-shore on both sides of the island.
Sunday I was hoping there would still be enough swell to go and shoot some photos back over on the East Coast. But Murpy’s Law strikes again. Wave height at Serangan, which usually draws in the swell. was breaking in the knee to waist high class. Surfing conditions were negotiable with the wind blowing cross / on-shore out of the SSW @ 12-15knot. The number of surfers in the water would have been pushing 100 on the two main peaks. So I didn’t bother to turn on my camera…
This mornings surf check on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban was looking no different from those of the past couple of weeks. 1-1ft+ of mainly wind generated waves breaking between Kuta Reef and Airport left. Earlier this morning the wind must have been coming out of the North for a awhile as there was a strong smell of fish coming from the Kuta / Seminyak direction. But by the time I was on the beach at 7.00am she had already swung to the WSW, expecting to turn more ot the SSW by midday.
At least there is some hope in sight with this weeks swell forecast calling for a small spike in wave height expected around Thursday / Friday. Earlier would be bettter !!
Weather wise this morning we had a mainly blue sky, there is some light cloud starting to fill in and more cloud cover expect by early to mid afternoon. Heading for a top temperature of around 31 degree’s Celsius.
Changing dollars to Rupiah on the streets of Kuta you’ll find that — 1AU$=Rp8,400 — 1US$=Rp9,450 — Rates will vary from vendor to vendor.
The fish stink is still happening along the Kuta to Seminyak stretch of beach with the fishermen from Jimburan Bay still laying their nets just out behind the surf. When their boats are full what ever is left in their net gets thrown straight back into the water. And I’m taking thousands apon thousands of these already dead “Pilchards” being tossed back into the water . Half of these end up along the beach in the surf zone and the other half sinking to the sea floor to stink it up.
Holiday Season up-date, If any of you guys and girls have been here in Bali through the Christmas / New Year period then you’d know what to expect. For those of you that haven’t it’s the time when just about every Indonesian living outside of Bali decides to drive their car here. The end result is traffic KAOS for anywhere in the Kuta to Seminyak area, and I do mean traffic grid lock. Anyone who hasn’t had their hotel booked for at least 1 month in advance hasn’t got a chance. This all starts anytime in the next week or so and runs through till just after the New Year. It has begun !
If it’s clean safe and friendly accommodation here at Home Base in Tuban only 300mtrs back from the Outer Reefs, including A/C, hot water, refridgerator & TV for US$15.00 (Rp150,000) per night (single) or US$18.00 (Rp180,000) for a couple and US$25.00 (Rp250,000) twin share. Then contact slim.
