****MORNING SURF UP-DATE****
Hello surfers and welcome back to your baliwaves.com for todays news on surf and weather conditions here on the real surfers paradise holiday island of Bali.
Early this morning we got off to an electrifing start, first up some of the heaviest rain I’ve ever seen and then followed with some solid over head thunder and lightning. This all started around 5.00am through till 7.00am.
So my 7.15am surf check on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban was surprisingly showing clean and glassy waves breaking in the waist to head high plus range between Kuta Reef and Airport left. Swell direction was more SW so Kuta Reef was picking up some head to well over head set waves, while Middle Reef and Airports were more in the waist to shoulder high plus region. There were infact 3 surfers in the water surfing inbetween Kuta Reef and Middle’s. What wind there was at the time was coming lightly out of the North at 1-2knot. Unfortunately the tide was still running out or Kuta Reef would have been a big bonus for this time of the year. Even now @ 10.30am the wind is still only light @ 1-3knot.
Tidal info for today has us down for a 0,4mtr Low @ 8.30am and then running back in for a 2.3mtr High around 3.00pm.
Weather wise like I mentioned it was everyman for himself earlier this morning but now we have a mainly blue sky with some high and thin cloud. Temperature wise heading for a very hot and humid 31 degree’s Celsius.
Seeing as though there’s still some swell about I’ll be heading over to the East Coast for a quick photo shoot after lunch and post what I shoot on the baliwaves early this afternoon. So if you’ve got time check in again for our afternoon surf report.
My last few trips to Serangan and at Keramas I’ve seen a lot of people get “sea urchin spines” in their feet. You don’t only find these nasty little creatures at these two locations but at just about any surfing location that has rock and reef. It’s pretty futile to try and cut them out or even pull them out with tweezers as they are very brittle and only break apart. The last time I was unlucky enough to get some stuck in between my toes… was up at Medewi. Being in a very awkward spot I went to a doctor to see if they could be removed. He told me it was just best to leave them in and within a week to ten days they should disolve. So just a heads up if your walking out for a wave over a rocky bottom, try and walk on the high spots and watch where you are putting your feet if possible.
Re; My comments on Sea Urchins in yesterdays surf report. Since then Bruce from up in Sumatra has contributed some priceless info on the subject. You can find Bruce’s words of wisdom in our comments..
Changing dollars to Rupiah on the streets of Kuta; –1US$=Rp9,265 — 1AU$=Rp8,600 — rates will vary from vendor to vendor.
Swell Forecast for the next 7 days is calling for a new swell to start showing later this afternoon and should put us back into the head to well over head range. Holding through Friday before starting to fade out on Saturday. Sunday and it’s just about over, Monday back down into the micro class and then another small bump on Tuesday.
