BALI
14th – 15th July 2014
Hi again folks and thanks for calling by the baliwaves.com (delivering the goods to you since 1999) for the latest news and best views on surfing and weather conditions from here on the happy little tropical holiday island of Bali.
Ok so yesterday the 14th was pretty weird weather wise for this time of the year in Bali. We headed over to the East coast of Bali (7.00AM) to see if what we could find at Keramas. But at the time the wind was already gust 15knot+ straight out of the South, totally blowing out the surf. Not much to do except to head back home and wait and see if the SE Tradewind would kick in through the afternoon.
As it shows in today’s 73 strong photo gallery, after the Tradey did kick in after lunch we waisted for the afternoon low tide session at Uluwatu’s grinding Racetrack section. There were some solid 3-4ft round kegs barreling down through the Track with some sic tube rides going down for the experienced surfer.
Today the 15th and our 6.45AM surf check on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban was showing wave height to be down in the 2-2ft+ sector between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. There was only a light ENE breeze at the time so conditions were clean and glassy. Middle Reef was picking up a few fun sized little waves on the lower end of the tide.
Weather wise this morning there were still a lot of cloud hanging around but as the SE Trade wind kicked in after mid morning it’s been a mainly hot and sunny say here on the holiday island.
Ketut did go for a ride up around Kuta and Kuta beach with our little digi matic camera and captured some street and beach scene photos this afternoon so watch out for them on line forst thing tomorrow morning (after I get the kids to school) So keep an eye on our “Recent Posts” section.
Changing dollars to Rupiah in Kuta today — 1AU$=Rp10,925 —
Swell alert, hopefully we should be seeing the start of a solid SSW swell hitting Bali this Wednesday afternoon that should peak on Thursday and keep us in the green through until Saturday. Who know’s we might even see some action at Padang Padang and the running of the 2014 RipCurl Padang Padang Cup. Stay tuned !
Travel Tip # 875, Ok look you’ll read on many websites and surf guide books about bringing extra cakes of wax and leg ropes and standard stuff like that. When in actual fact all that “extra” stuff can be found here in any of Bali’s surf shops and usually cheaper than what it costs you at your home surf shop right. So here’s just 5 items that you really need to bring with you.
1. patience
2. good manners
3. friendly smiles
4. respect
5. *common sense
Once apon a time travelling surfers were like a band of brothers, always being friendly and helpful to a fellow surfer. These days I’m seeing more and more zombie surfers around Bali. The type of people that have absolutely no intention of a simple friendly “hello” when passing by. Remember you are an ambassador of your country at all times once you leave it.
I know a guy that wants to sell 25% share of a resort in the Mentawai Islands, directly in front of Lances Left. You can see what the deal is at: http://www.surfersjournal.com/surf_property/kingfisher
