BALI / INDONESIA
17th – 19th October 2015
Hi surfers and thanks again for stopping by the baliwaves (keeping you in the loop with Bali since back in 1999) for our latest news and the best news on surfing and weather conditions from right here on your first choice tropical surfing holiday destination called Bali.
Ok so we have been chasing waves all over the island the last few days and here is 130+ photos that we have shot from East coast to West coast.
On the 17th we were on the East Coast at Keramas and the first half of our photo gallery was taken over there. We arrived just as the tide was running back in to find wave height in the 2-3ft range with the occasional bigger set wave. At first it was looking ok with only 16 surfers in the water but it seemed as soon as the tide filled in a little more there was a steady stream of surfers filing out of the resort taking the number up to nearly 30. Surfing conditions were clean and glassy before the SE Trade wind kicked in and blew it out around late morning.
NB: one of our friends told me that now a certain well know corporate style website in the USA now give out directions and locations to one of the little known surfing locations in this area. Wow, you know I can remember being abused by frequent surfers on these breaks just for posting photos with alias names for the locations. Talk about selling out Bali surf locations, nice work…
Yesterday the 18th and we were up and on the road long before sun up with Medewi on Bali’s West coast as our primary surfing objective. We pulled into the car park at 7.00AM after a rough and narly drive up the main highway to Java to find wave height in the 2-4ft range and a light and variable on shore wind. But my crew was pretty stoked as there were only 3 other surfers in the water and some of the waves peeling off for a good 200yards plus. Surfing at Mewedi in my opinion is always worth the effort to get there. The locals are friendly and don’t want every wave that comes through and the whole vibe in the water is mellow.
The locals at Medewi Board Riders are working with the local area government at the moment and come the 31st of October will be holding and open surfing contest at Medewi so if your interested in taking part follow this link for more information.

Today the 19th and with our 6.45AM surf check on the Outer reefs of Tuban only showing 1-3 foot waves breaking between Kuta reef and Airport Left and a light and variable sea breeze blowing, we decided to take it easy and just cruise up the Canggu for a quick paddle this morning. Arriving around 8.45AM just as the tide was starting to roll back in to find wave height breaking on all 3 sections in the waist to head high range and maybe a ever so slightly bigger set wave hitting the river mouth section.
The surf was pretty darn ordinary at Canggu this morning and the wind did get a little stronger outta the SW as the morning progressed. But your worst day in the surf has got to be better the your best day at work right. Eventually just after lunch time the wind did swing back to the SSE and cross off shore here along Bali’s West Coast from Kuta to Uluwatu.
Weather wise it’s been hard to fault here on the holiday island with just blue sky and sun shine for all the beach lovers.
