Surf Iconic Uluwatu with Quiksilver and Bali Legends at the 5th Annual Big Bali Eco Weekend – Uluwatu Challenge Fundraiser on Sunday, July 30th and make a difference.
20 June, 2017 – Uluwatu-Bali: Quiksilver is now offering up 40 spots on a first-come, first served basis to surf iconic Uluwatu in the 5th annual Quiksilver Uluwatu Challenge Fundraiser on July 30th. This year, Quiksilver and Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia will work closely with Uluwatu based NGO, Project Clean Uluwatu (PCU) and the local Uluwatu Boardriders to raise funds that will go towards new infrastructure at Uluwatu that will keep the world class wave clean and pristine for generations to come.
For just Rp2 million ($150 USD) entry fee, the lucky 40+ surfers will get to paddle out and compete with Quiksilver legends including Mark Richards, Matt Hoy, Tom Carroll, and Simon Anderson. Joining the international legends will be Bali legends that include Made Kasim, Ketut Menda, Made Switra, Made Lana, Tipi Jabrik, Dede Suryana and Rizal Tanjung for a total of 54 participants.
The Uluwatu Challenge will continue in the Eddie Aikau 6-person heat format, where each surfer competes in two heats and their two highest scores from their 4 best waves will then be scored and totaled. The surfer with the highest two-wave score total (out of a possible 20 points, maximum of 10 points per wave) will be declared the winner of the event. Previous winners have included World Tour veteran Fred Pattachia from Hawaii and Bali-based charger Tai “Buddha” Graham so there will be many current day surf stars fighting to have their name added to the trophy.
Following the competition, the Single Fin bar will open up for a sunset party and host the awards presentation as the sun sets over the Indian Ocean in what is sure to be reminiscent of Uluwatu surf scenes from “Morning of the Earth”, the Albe Falzon epic from the 70’s that stirred the imaginations of millions.
“Uluwatu is one of the best waves in Bali, and to be able to surf with the local guys and regular punters who are all collectively trying to highlight environmental awareness in Bali is something I am stoked to be a part of,” said 4 time world champion, Mark Richards.
Tom Carroll agrees, saying “I love Bali, so I’m really happy to be able to help spread the environmental message here towards keeping our beaches and water clean. I was here last year and had such a good time, so it’s great to be coming back!”
“3 time Asian Surf Champion, Dede Suryana agrees saying, “Uluwatu is so perfect with its different sections offering up so many opportunities, having come second place last year I want to go one step better and get my name on the trophy this year.”
Quiksilver Marketing Executive, Sammy Gosling, is looking forward to another great Uluwatu Challenge this year, saying, “Quiksilver is proud that we can bring our global team together with local legends and tourists to make a positive difference…It’s a great day out where the Bali surf community and industry can come together to help give back to a wave and island that gives so much…The Cave is Calling!!!”
