BALI / INDONESIA
1st – 2nd August 2017
Hi folks and thanks again for keeping an eye on the baliwaves (the original Bali surf report website since back in 1999) for our latest news and the best possible views on surfing and weather conditions from here on the only sane choice for any working man’s next tropical surfing holiday that has it all, Bali.
Ok so the last few days we have covered quite a few miles to keep everyone happy and showing off as much of Bali as we can to our new friends here with us. On the 1st of this month we made the run up the coast to Medewi. Unfortunately the conditions were not that good but plenty of swell with double head high set waves. The problem being that even at 7.00AM the SE Trade Wind was already pushing the 15knot mark. There were 4 surfers in the water but lots of current and cross shore wind.
These current photos on site were shot yesterday the 2nd down at Uluwatu. Wave height down at the wave magnet location of Ulu was only in the 2-4ft class with strong off shore SE wind. As the tide got lower towards midday the Racetrack section was starting to churn out some sick tube rides and as usual lokal surfer Agus “Blacky” Setiawan was all over it, or all over inside it. Crowd wise it was pretty good through the morning session then filling in fast when all around midday.
Today the 3rd of August and so much for the predicted 3-4mtr swell all the guru’s were calling. Our morning surf check on the Outer Reefs of Tuban had wave height similar to yesterday at 2-3ft between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. Surfing conditions at the time were clean enough but the SE Tradey was already building momentum and will probably hit the 20knot strength by midday.
Ketut has called through from down on location at Uluwatu, at 8.30AM calling wave height to be in the 3-4ft range and around 30 surfers spread through the Main Peak section. I’ve talked to our man again since then hoping to hear of monster swells hitting Bali. But not as yet, Ketut did say there are now a few 5 footers coming through. So hopefully it does build a little more. My guess is that the East Coast is scoring all the swell with the SSW direction we have had the last couple of days. It is “predicted” to swing back to the SW some time today so that should bring in a few bumps for the boys and girls down on the bukit.
Weather wise it’s been fairly constantly over cast over most of Bali the last few days. Light rain has fallen and we did get a few drops earlier this morning. Right now at 11.25AM the sky is clearing up and loads of blue sky out to the ESE. Temperature wise the mercury is on 27 degree’s Celsius and should jump a couple more notches with the blue sky. Wind direction is coming hard out of the SE at 15 – 20knot.
Alright then surfers that will do us for now but we’ll have another bunch of new photos coming in as soon as Ketut makes it back to HQ. So keep an eye on the baliwaves cause as you know you don’t have to be a pro surfer to make an appearance on the baliwaves. We get so stoked when we get email from surfers who see themselves or their friends in our galleries.
New G-Land surf report has also been loaded this morning thanks to our mates at Joyo’s G-Land Surf Camp. The owners are offering some good deals for their surf camp at the moment and we have upped the anti a bit more with 15% discount on offer, but you need to contact us here at baliwaves first to score the discount ok.
The next tide today in Bali will be a low range 0.8mtr Low at 1.57PM
Changing dollars to Rupiah (yesterday) — 1US$=Rp13,225 — 1AU$=Rp10,540 — 1EU$=Rp15,125 —
One last thing I should mention is to please take care when your in Bali, don’t forget to pack your common sense and awareness. There has been a lot of snatch and grabs done on tourist hand bags with women being the major target (weak bastards). The local Balinese and Police are all over it and catching quite a few perps but there are still plenty of thieves out there. Most impotantly do not carry your credit cards and passport with you on the street.
The Owner at Damai Bungalows up in South Sumatra has given us the go ahead to offer any of our viewers a solid 10% discount at their perfect hide away surf haven. You just have to contact us here at baliwaves first to save some money.
While your here make sure you check out all our sponsors / advertisers and help us by supporting them as well, thanks again for dropping into the baliwaves
