BALI / INDONESIA
20th – 21st September 2017
Hi folks and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves (bringing you a little bit of Bali since back in 1999) for the latest news and our best possible views on surfing and weather conditions from here on the World’s No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination of Bali.
Volcano up date, my families Balinese village is up in the foot hills of Mt Agung and we have been in touch with them daily since the activity began. My in laws did say that there had been some ash falling but not much and a minor rumble or 100 but not really much more than that at this stage. Their village has not been asked to evacuate and normal daily life and activities are happening. Lets hope Mt Agung has a good vent and then goes back to sleep. The last time it erupted was devastating back in 1963 and many lives were lost and damage done. But that was back in the day of low tech and communication levels. These days our scientists are all over this stuff.
On the wave front we went back over to the East yesterday and found some fun chest to over head sized waves breaking both left and right. The tide was still pretty low for the awny so by the time we arrived there was already around 15+ surfers spread through the line up. As the tide did fill in the waves did start getting more consistent. Surfing conditions were clean and glassy through out the morning with the wind coming lightly out of the South at 2-5knot.
Weather wise it was mostly just another hot and sunny day here in the tropics with the wind swinging around to the SE by midday.
This morning the 22nd and right now at 6.20AM we have a mostly overcast sky and it looks like thgere may even have been a drop or two of rain fall somewhere on the island. We are just about ready to hit the road and go find some more waves so stay tuned for more news and up ates through out the morning via our Twitter and Instagram feeds on baliwaves.
