BALI / INDONESIA
29th – 30th September 2017
Hi everyone and thanks again for stopping by the baliwaves (your eye’s on the ground here in Bali since back in 1999) for our latest news and the best possible views from here on the World’s No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination, Bali.
Mt Gunung up date, Well not much has changed here on the ground in Bali. Except there’s been a lot of international and social media doomsdayers saying the end is near. W have had 5 members of our Balinese family that were evacuated from our family village in the foot hills of Mt Agung straying with us this last week. Mainly just women and children have been evacuated with the majority of the village men remaining behind to tend livestock and carry on with normal village life on the Mountain. Today our family received the news of being able to return back to their homes which is great news for them. If the Mountain does erupt they will simple re evacuate again.
Just a thought for anyone worried about coming to Bali and having their flights cancelled incase the Mt does erupt. The best chance is to not fly with Jetstar or Virgin airlines (from Australia) for starters if possible, try Garuda or Air Asia. You could also fly into Lombok and grab a ferry across to Bali, or even fly into Jakarta and catch a domestic flight to Bali (as long as the airport stays open and it should). Anyway fingers crossed Mt Agung goes back to sleep.
On the surfing scene absolutely nothing has changed here in Bali. Even though wave height has settled back down into the 2-4ft (chest to over head high) the last coup[le of days. This current photo gallery of some dredgy left and right hand sand bottom barrels was shot here on Bali’s West Coast yesterday. Surfing conditions as it shows were clean and glassy until the SE TRade wind kicked in with gusto around 9.30AM.
Today the 30th and wave height was still just holding in at chest to over head high down on Bali’s premier surfing location of Uluwatu. Surfing conditions were clean and tidy with the wind only just a breath coming out of the WSW before swinging to the SE and then SSE. Crowd wise there was plenty of space in the line up with the crowd peaking at around 58 surfers from the Peak to the Track by 10.00AM. I’dd load up some photos from this morning ASAP.
Weather wise this morning there was alot of high cloud hanging around and some early morning rain falling down on the bukit. Temperature wise it was still warm to hot with the midday temperature hitting 29 degree’s Celsius.
