BALI / INDONESIA
18th – 19th October 2017
Hi surfers and welcome back to the baliwaves (your eye’s in Indo since back in 1999) for our latest news and the best possible views on surfing and weather conditions from here on the World’s No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination of Bali.
Mt Agung up-date, nothing new to report except it’s starting to get noticeably more quite here in Bali on the International visitor scene.
Yesterday the 18th and it wasn’t for the lack of trying but I’d have to say it was the worst day of weather we have had so far this year and pretty much the only day this year that we threw off and didn’t surf. From day break the Southerly wind was up and rain clouds moving in. We thought we’d try Keramas seeing as though the wind can hold off there most early mornings. But by the time we got there at 7.30AM the 1-2 foot waves were blown out from the 15-20knot southerly. Even so there was still 18 surfers in the water, we called it a day.
Today the 19th and it was a nice contrast to have a mostly blue sky and light wind this morning. So we headed down to Balangan to see if there was any peeling off, and yes in fact there was., Wave height was in the head to double head high plus range with clean and glassy type surfing conditions. There was only half a dozen surfers in the water when we arrived at 8.00AM but the numbers picked up as the tide filled in. But I’m really telling you that a high percentage of the “surfers” in the water should not have been trying to learn to surf in double head high Balangan, maybe around the corner at Dream Land would be a much better option.
Ketut was also just around the corner covering the second day of the Bingin Boardriders Open surfing contest. He called through earlier this morning calling there were some nice 4 footers through the morning before the tide fattened it up. He’s also dumped a memory card on my desk with 1000 photos on it so I’ll check those out ASAP. I also think he will be heading back down to Bingin again tomorrow for the final days action. So if your in Bali and want to check out Bali’s best surfers in action get down to Bingin tomorrow.
Weather wise right now at 5.05PM the temperature is still a warm 29 degree’s Celsius, Humidity is at 71%. Wind direction is now coming out of the West at 10-16knot.
