Howdy peeps and thanks for taking the time out to stop by the baliwaves (keeping you up to date with Bali’s surfing scene since back in 1999) for our latest news and the best possible views on surfing and weather conditions from here on the World’s No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination, Bali.
First off we better fill you in on the Mt Agung natural disaster that is taking place as I type. On Saturday the 25th Mt Agung did blow it’s stack and erupted thick black smoke and ash, with the ash falling like light transparent rain in areas as far south as Gianyar (Keramas beach). It is hard to get a good look at the Mountain due to pretty much constant cloud cover over Bali. I have posted a photo of Mt Agung at the end of today’s photo gallery that was taken yesterday from Keramas beach and it is showing thick cloud still billowing out of the volcano. There has been a lack of wind of late which is not helping to disperse the smoke and ash, anytime soon we should see the wind pick up in strength out of the West to South quadrants which will take the smoke and ash off the majority of Bali and over the sea. As of early this morning Ngurah Rai Bali airport has been closed for at least 24hrs. Hopefully just a short temporary deal and will be back open again soon. I’ll post more info via our Twitter feed on baliwaves as news breaks (@baliwaves).
Ok so yesterday we were over on Bali’s East coast at Keramas. We were also hoping to see a slight pulse in wave height as the tide was starting to push back in. On arrive wave height was only in the 1-2ft range with maybe the odd head high freak set. Unfortunately nothing really happening with the tidal push and it was what it was. Low numbers did ensure that those that did go out for a paddle managed to grab some waves and have some fun.
Today the 27th and our 6.45AM surf check on the Outer reefs of Tuban was showing wave height also to only be breaking in the waist to chest high range between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. The tide was low at the time and Middle Reef had the best chance of getting a wave. Surfing conditions were clean and glassy with the wind light out of the NE.
Ketut has taken a run up to Canggu this morning and has called through to say that there are a few head high waves hitting all 3 of the main breaks from Echo beach to the River mouth of Pererenan. Surfing conditions were clean and glassy at the time and numbers in the water unusually small. We’ll have a few photos to show you when Ketut gets back home. So stay tuned to the original Bali surf report website.
Weather wise this morning we have a mostly light over cast sky. Right now at 10.00AM the temperature is sitting on 28 degree’s Celsius, Humidity is at 78%. Wind direction is coming lightly out of the East at 2-4knot.
I also should mention with the construction of the new underpass on the By-Pass Highway (Bali’s busiest Highway) in front of the airport you can expect traffic delays, confusion, chaos and detours. Take it easy through this area and allow a little extra time for it. It will be best for everyone in the long run when completed.
