Hello everyone and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves (keeping you in the loop with Bali since back in 1999) for our latest news and best possible views on surfing and weather conditions from here on the World’s No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination, Bali.
Ok so it’s great to see Bali’s Ngurah Rai International airport operating as usual again, It’s good to see that Mt Agung appears to have gone back to sleep again with hardly if any steam or smoke emitting from the crater. It’s also great to see Australian budget airlines flying to and fro from Bali again. Hopefully everything will get back on track for the Christmas holidays here in Bali.
As you guys and girls might have noticed by now we have been stuck with small waves here in Bali the last couple of days, hence the lack of photos and a little less enthusiasim.
This current bunch of photos we shot up the West Coast a little ways at Canggu and as it shows wave height was only just in the waist to waist high plus region with maybe 1 or 2 random chest to head high super freak set waves. We turned up around 8.00AM to find only a handful of surfers in the water with clean surfing conditions thanks to a light off shore Northerly wind. We also had a solid high tide yesterday morning that wasn’t helping the small waves. It was around 9.3-AM that all the learner surfers starting to flood into Canggu seeing as though it was pretty well flat down at Batu Bolong and Brawa.
Weather wise there was a little sun shine but mostly a thin layer of cloud for most of the morning.
This morning the 4th and our 6.30AM surf check on the Outer Reefs was still only showing 1-2ft waves breaking between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. At the time surfing conditions had a little bump on the waves with the wind light out of the North. I’ve also had news in from friends at Canggu calling more small 1-2 footers again this morning with the wind light and variable. The big high tide that has just passed and I don’t think there would be too much happening anywhere along Bali’s West Coast this morning. But still a nice day for a swim and some sun.
Weather wise out side it’s still mostly blue sky with the temperature sitting on 28 degree’s Celsius at 10.30AM, Humidity is on 81% and the wind is light out of the West.
It’s looking like we will be having small waves for at least another 5-6 days here in Bali, but that’s a whole lot better than no waves right.
I was just thinking about the Grommet surf comp baliwaves had for local kids from the Legian to Airport region back in the start of the 21st century and now that I do think about it it was probably the first ever Grommet contest in Bali or all of Indonesia for that matter. First prize was a brand new Diverse surfboard, and a 2nd hand one for runner up. Everyone scored a baliwaves t-shirt and we all had lunch catered from Kompor’s warung (nasi campur). The venue was at the perfect beach break in front of the Kartika Plaza Hotel that has since then been destroyed by building a rock break wall right on top of the wave.
In fact back years ago we used to have tonnes of nice little beach breaks down in Tuban. Before the hotels got together and pumped billions of tonnes of sand onto the beach, extending the beach out to around 80mtrs in places burying the whole lot and taking away all the fun little beach breaks that we had, progress.
