BALI / INDONESIA
13th 14th April 2018
Hello everyone and thanks again for dropping into the baliwaves (keeping you in the loop with Bali’s surfing scene since back in 1999) and another weekend full of waves coming our way here on the World’s No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination and the gateway to Indonesia’s surfing wonderland, Bali.
Alright sorry but it’s been a long day and many miles behind us so I’m going to try and keep this as short as possible. Right so here’s just a few photos that we shot yesterday over at Kerupuk Pt after our primary location had been compromised (so to speak). Any Kerupuk is a challenging right barrel of a wave where you’ll mainly find fearless locals pulling into depp and mostly un makeable pits. But, there are always quite a few that stay open and allow the fearless or should I say the competent enough a nice little doggy door to exit.
Today the 14th and we went way back up the coast to Medewi, I have always had fond memories surfing hear over the last 20yrs or so. Even with all the sea urchins I’ve stepped on and oyster shells that have ripped my flesh, I still love the place. But after today’s visit with wave height only in the waist to head high range I’ll be thinking twice before heading back up there when it’s only head high. Just too many learner Europeans being pushed into waves on the end section, the middle section and even off the point section, for my liking. I’m happy that some of the locals are making some money from it but it was more dangerous than any sea urchin or oyster shells today. As soon as the tide got close to the High end, which is the best time to surf at Medewi it was pretty well all over.
Weather wise it was another nice day and a great start to the weekend here in Bali, pretty well just blue sky and a very warm midday temperature of 32 degree’s Celsius. Wind wise we had an early morning off shore NNE wind (at Medewi) that started to swing to the ESE and build in strength by around 10.30AM.
Ok more swell expected tomorrow and into next week so make sure you stay tuned right here to the original Bali surf report. Plus a big shout out to Surfline for the use of their full compliment of surf webcams here in Bali. I actually had a small part in helping Mr Collins (RIP) the original surf forecaster calibrate Surflines forecasting tool called LOLA way back when the internet was still young and innocent.
