15th – 16 June 2019
Hello surfers and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves (The original Bali surf report since back in 1999) Make sure you keep on reading for more information on cheap surfers accommodation, surf, tide and weather info, discounts into G-Land and lots of other stuff.
Hey everyone we hope you’ve had a good weekend and ready for the start of another surfing week here on “the island of the Gods”. On the 15th we got off to a good start and with a light and variable early morning breeze we headed for the East Coast. Our first view of one of my favorite right hand point breaks was of perfect 3-5ft waves. But it was total catch 22, the last few days of big waves hitting this location had done some deep erosion along the shore line taking all the sand away and just leaving some very nasty rocks. That and combined with a big early morning high tide shorey breaking hard with what looked like “deadly force” it was just too radical to get down into the water without getting smashed on the rocks. It was hard to leave but we knew the wind wouldn’t hold off long enough for the tide to settle. So we headed for our secondary location and settled for 2-3ft+ waves with 8 other surfers in the water.
Yesterday the 16th and we had another early start, but this time we headed up the West Coast looking for some long lefts. Arriving to find some super clean 3-4 footers peeling off for a good 125mtrs but with a solid crowd in the water, which is becoming the norm when there’s a morning high tide. But we still managed to get our share of waves and say hello to the local boys before making our way slowly back down South to home. Surfing conditions stayed nice and tidy until the ESE Trade wind arrived around 10.30AM.
Today the 17th and our 7.15am surf check on the Outer Reefs of Tuban was showing wave height breaking in the 2-3ft class between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. Surfing conditions were clean and glassy and the tide on the make. Seeing as though we had more light wind I had our man Ketut take a run up to Canggu to see if there was any local action. Ketut was calling 2-4ft waves with clean surfing conditions lasting through until 9.00am when the Tradey kicked in with gusts up to 25km/h/
Weather wise today to start off the week we have a mostly clear sky here in the South Kuta area. Temperature wise right now at 12.25pm we have a nice 28 degree’s Celsius, not bad for winter. The Humidity is at 70% and the UV index on 4. Wind direction is ESE with gusts up to 25km/h.
Tomorrows surf outlook is for fresh ESE wind with a slight bump in wave height. Further out we should see a medium to moderate sized new swell hit Bali on the 18th taking us through to the 20th. This new system looks to have a lot more SW direction so hopefully it will hit the better West coast locations with better angle than our last one did.
I’m finally going to get our video footage from Padang Padang cut and edited later this afternoon so make sure you check that out when it’s up and on line.
Also if you have any young surfers with the potential to excel and to get some professional training and coaching in all aspects of surfing then check out Tipi Jabriks “Grom Patrol” Bali surf training camp and contests that’s coming up soon.
