BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
21st – 23rd October 2020
Hello the everyone tuning into the baliwaves and firstly thanks for all your support for the baliwaves.com Just for the record baliwaves.com was the first website on line for Indonesia that had anything surfing related. In fact we were the 3rd website on line for all of Indonesia. The first was a Bali forum the second was a fishing website in Jakarta and coming in 3rd was your baliwaves.com These days I think there is something like 700,000,000. websites on line for Bali.
We hope everyone is surviving the best they can, here at ground level in Bali it really is about survival for the average people. For my self it’s all about getting through one day at a time, and some days are definitely better than others. The pandemic is dragging on and the longer it goes the more damage to the average persons mental health is really being stretched. We have made it through 10 months of no Family income only through the kindness and consideration of our friends. A big deep heart felt thanks to everyone who has considered our well being here in Bali.
Well here on the Outer Reefs of Tuban the waves have been pretty good the last few days. Kuta Reef has been delivering the good with wave height averaging in the chest to well over head high class. On the afternoon of the 21st we started to see a nice little bump in size. Yesterday the 22nd and it seemed to have dropped off on the morning low tide but as the tide pushed back in so did the waves.
I needed to clear my head so I pushed my old traditional fishing boat out and set about doing that, and hoping to get some food for my family. Unfortunately I never boated anything except various sized plastic bags. But I did clear my head and that’s my method of staying sane through these un precented times.
Today the 23rd and the charts were saying that wave height might be backing off a touch, so we went down to Uluwatu to catch the Racetrack on the low tide. Hoping it would be the best bet for the morning. It didn’t look like wave height had dropped off as there were still some waves breaking wide out on the Outside Racetrack. But the one’s that hugged the reef, the “in betweeners” were producing some real nice long rides. Not too mention some long and deep tubes on the Racetrack. Wave height out on the Bombie was a solid double head high and some bigger ones were breaking right through to the Peak.
There were only 8 surfers in the water for the morning low tide session. Ray and I hung out till 11.30am and by that time the tide was well and truly pushing back in, done and dusted. By that time there was over 30 surfers in the water and we past a lot more on the way out all bee lining towards Uluwatu.
Ray was shooting video for us again this morning and I think by now we should have enough to put together a new clip. We will go through it all asap.
Weather wise it was mostly over cast early with some sunny breaks, wind direction was light out of the NNW, it wasn’t until 10.15am that the ESE-SE Trade wind kicked in. Right now at 2.50pm the temperature is still a warm 30 degree’s Celsius and the humidity is at 70%. Wind direction is coming out of the SE at 15-20km/h.
The next tide today here in Bali will be a 1.7mtr High at 3.07pm.
Tomorrows Surf Forecast is saying that wave height should be pretty much the same for the morning session and then backing off a little through out the afternoon. I’d expect more light and variable N-NW wind early before the Trade wind hopefully kicks in.
Long Range Surf Forecast is saying to expect small waves through til a new solid swell is set to arrive around the 29th and take us through to November. But you all know there’s pretty much always a wave somewhere on this little island right. I think I’ve only ever seen Uluwatu not surf able due to a lack of waves 2 times in the last 25+ years.
Ok everyone thanks again for your support and please stay tuned to the baliwaves.com and our more frequent video reports can be found on our Instagram and FB accounts as well.
