BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
5th – 8th November 2020
Hello the everyone tuning into the baliwaves and firstly thanks for all your support for the baliwaves.com Just for the record baliwaves.com was the first website on line for Indonesia that had anything surfing related. In fact we were the 3rd website on line for all of Indonesia. The first was a Bali forum the second was a fishing website in Jakarta and coming in 3rd was your baliwaves.com These days I think there is something like 700,000,000. websites on line for Bali.
We hope everyone is surviving the best they can, here at ground level in Bali it really is about survival for the average people. For my self it’s all about getting through one day at a time, and some days are definitely better than others. The pandemic is dragging on and the longer it goes the more damage to the average persons mental health is really being stretched. We have made it through 10 months of no Family income only through the kindness and consideration of our friends. A big deep heart felt thanks to everyone who has considered our well being here in Bali.
Bringing you all up to date first I guess. Well on the 5th I had to spend the day at home cleaning up the back yard. It was looking good there for a few months but with the fishing season kicking in and the need to feed the family it has been lacking attention. So I pretty much spent the whole day getting things back in order and then cleaning up my fishing reels ready for more action on the next day. I did try my luck “live baiting” up the coast again on the 6th but only ended up getting a hard dose of the sun and losing the only two strikes I had all morning before calling it a day before the wind come up.
Yesterday the 7th and I needed a change in luck so I made my way (in the boat) down South off Uluwatu. Most of my friends had been trolling lures down there and catching Wahoo and small Spanish Macks. I needed a confidence boost as it had been a few days since I had boated anything. Not too mention I was sick of eating instant noodles so a small(ish) Spaniard to take home would go down well. I hadn’t trolled “lures” for a while and any fishermen never tell you what they are really using to catch fish in the way of colour and size of lure. So I ended up changing lures 8 times before finding what the fish were biting on. To cut a long story short I did manage to boat one out of three attempts and filled the fridge freezer up with some very tasty meat.
Hopefully when the smoke clears and you surfer / fishermen start making it back to Bali you can come out with us and experience some Bali sport fishing for yourselves.
Today the 8th and my 6.30am surf check on the Outer reefs of Tuban was showing wave height in the 1-3ft class between Kuta Reef and Airport left. The tide was getting close to the bottom of the low so Middle Reef was the only option and I did see 3 *surfers making there way out there at the time. Surfing conditions were still clean and almost glassy with the wind only just coming out of the West at 1-3knot.
As it shows in our latest photo gallery Ray and I made our way up Canggu hoping there would be a few waves, there usually is so it was a safe enough bet. The tide was just coming off the bottom and indeed there were a few little fun waves breaking on the Sandbar section right in front of all the local flavored warungs. Being a Sunday, but not that that really makes much of a difference these days, it was pretty crowded with at least 30 surfers on the Sandbar. Conditions were better suited to the grommies this morning although there were quite a few young at heart surfers out there as well.
Weather wise it’s been your average hot and sunny type of day here in Bali. Right now at 12.45pm the temperature is a very warm 33 degree’s Celsius, Humidity is at 51%. Wind direction is out of the West at 7-10km/h.
The next tide today will be a 1.7mtr High around 3.30pm.
Tomorrows Surf Forecast is pretty much saying to expect similar sized waves again as today. Early morning light, variable wind and probably the best conditions on offer.
Ok that’s about us for now, I’m having Some Spanish for lunch and then going to kick back until the afternoon starts to cool off. I don’t know if I can put my body through sitting in the boat under the tropical sun again tomorrow, maybe, maybe not. One day at a time and I’ll see how the aches and pains are. I also managed to get nipped on the hand by one of the fish a few days back and no matter how much betadine or Chinese medicine I’ve put on it is stopping the infection coming on. Us surfers are lucky that Spanish Mackerel are not man eaters, their teeth are like mini GWS teeth.
Thanks again for all your support and helping my Family and I get through 2020. We Can’t wait to see everyone back here in Bali and for the post Covid party’s to begin, bring it on.
