BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
21st November 2020
Hello the everyone tuning into the baliwaves and firstly thanks for all your support for the baliwaves.com Just for the record baliwaves.com was the first website on line for Indonesia that had anything surfing related. In fact we were the 3rd website on line for all of Indonesia. The first was a Bali forum the second was a fishing website in Jakarta and coming in 3rd was your baliwaves.com These days I think there is something like 700,000,000. websites on line for Bali.
We hope everyone is surviving the best they can, here at ground level in Bali it really is about survival for the average people. For my self it’s all about getting through one day at a time, and some days are definitely better than others. The pandemic is dragging on and the longer it goes the more damage to the average persons mental health is really being stretched. We have made it through 11 months of no Family income only through the kindness and consideration of our friends. A big deep heart felt thanks to everyone who has considered our well being here in Bali.
Up dating department, once again where has the time gone. But the answer is pretty obvious to me spending just about all my time out on the ocean trying to make a living and feed my family. But on the 17th my family had to prepare for a huge day of ceremonies up in our mountain village. A ceremony that only takes place every 40 years in the town of Datah / Karangasem. Living so far away from our family village we don’t always get to attend each and every ceremony but we do make an effort to attend all the important ones on our Hindu calendar.
Many years ago I was very fortunate and a rare thing to be excepted into our village as a full religious member with “Banjar Adat” status. I’m sure there maybe others here in Bali with the same status but I haven’t met any yet. So that was on the 18th and a big and memorable day for us which also included 6.5hrs behind the wheel for me. I did snap a few photos and I’ll try and show you some later on.
Then after a day of recovery and doing stuff at home on the 19th I then spent the next 2 days from sun up till sun down out in the boat trying to be a provider for my family. Well we did bring home some fish, enough for a few days eating but nothing of substantial value to help pay the bills or fuel costs, that’s fishing, as I know it.
Then yesterday the 21st I was thinking of you guys and girls so Ray and I loaded the camera and video gear into the car and headed up to Canggu. Wave height at the Gu yesterday was only in the 3ft class with the occasional slightly bigger and the occasional slightly thicker one hitting the Pererenan Sandbar left. Lots of good local surfers in the water as usual and some serious ripping going down. Crowd wise it was pretty busy (as usual) with maybe 30 surfers on the sandbar and another 15 or so on the still too shallow river mouth right.
It’s funny, I often hear the word “zombies” when people speak of Canggu or “hipsters” and hey I use them myself sometimes. But there are a lot of people that hang out at the Gu who don’t realize that it really refers to them and their friends.
Surfing conditions were still clean and almost glassy when we arrived at 8.45am with the tide just starting to lift off the bottom. The wind did slowly pick up momentum and dedicated to the ESE-SE. By the time we packed the waves were almost blown out with the wind cross on shore around the 12- 15knot mark.
Weather wise yesterday it was another scorcher here in Bali. Mostly blue sky with just a splash of cloud moving through. Temperature wise it had to be close to 35 out of the wind, my office. The wind has been all over the place and coming out of just about all points on the compass before turning to the ESE-SSE usually later in the day. Last night we did have some more welcomed rain to take the edge off. This morning the sky is still clouded over and the wind is just a light breath out of the East.
Today’s (22nd) Surf Forecast is calling in for another slight drop in wave height. But there should be plenty of small but fun sized waves on off between Uluwatu and Balian. My pick would be to check the beach breaks between Kuta and Seminyak for a little more space on the rising tide. I’ll eventually get down the beach this morning to do a video surf report for Twitter and Instagram.
The next tide today will be a 0.7mtr Low at 9.08am
Ok as I mentioned Ray also shot some video yesterday and I think we might just about have enough decent footage to put together another worth a look clip for you. I’ll get onto that as well asap. Our resident Surf Fitness Gure Clive Rodell has also sent us through another Surf Fit installment and I will have that up on line within the hour. So you had better check that out, Clive has a lot of credibility in the surfing industry and has a huge wealth of fitness knowledge.
We would also like to welcome our latest friends on baliwaves with H2O fishing lures joining us. If you want fishing lures that work then check out what these people have on offer.
On the Bali Corona Viras situation there does seem to be some good news and a much needed light at the end of this deep and dark recession. There is talk of a vaccine that is almost ready to start rolling out here in Indonesia and hopefully as soon as early January 2021 that could be happening. Maybe then we can start to see Bali people filtering back into the island of the Gods and World’s No.1 surfing holiday destination.
Ok we sure do want to thank each and everyone of you for your continued support of the original Bali surf report. We can’t wait to get back to some kind of normality and welcome you all to Bali again, Thanks again !
