BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
26th – 20th November 2020
Hello to everyone tuning into the baliwaves and firstly thanks for all your support for the baliwaves.com We really could not have survived through this pandemic without your most appreciated help. It certainly has been an up and down, mostly down ride for most people here in Bali. Here at ground level in Bali it really is about survival for your average Balinese. For myself it’s all about getting through one day at a time, and some days are definitely better than others. The pandemic is dragging on and the longer it goes the more damage to the average persons mental health is really being stretched. We have made it through 11 months of no Family income only through the kindness and consideration of our friends. A big deep heart felt thanks to everyone who has considered our well being here in Bali.
Well nothing exciting (100%) has been happening here on the once hustling and bustling island of Bali the last few days. I guess there has been a few early morning waves happening the last couple of days but I’ve been back in that dark place for the last couple. My highlight was taking the kids down the beach to help clean the weed that grows oh too quickly on the bottom of my boat and bamboo outriggers. Then taking them out for a spin around the reefs in it, they love it as much as I do.
But today we got, or I got my act together and with the lads we went for a drive up to the Gu to check the waves. I was seeing a bump in wave height predicted for today, so it was a bit of a risky decision to head there. But with good light and clean wind early half the battle was won anyway.
As it shows in the photos wave height was almost at the max that Canggu can handle, head to double head high with a few bigger set waves hitting the Pererenan river mouth. The lefts on the Sandbar was where the action and some sick tube rides were being made by the local ex pat crew that live for the Sandbar barrels. Only maybe 10-15 surfers in the water and another 15-20 over on the river mouth.
Surfing conditions were clean and still light off shore when we turned up around 7.15am but the wind soon enough started to swing to the WSW and then the West. We packed up around 9.00am as the tide was filling in fast, peaking at 2.0mtrs around 9.30am, combined with the fresh on shore Westerly wind.
Weather wise today it was mostly light over cast early until on our drive home it really rained hard while we were on the Sunset rd / Seminyak area, I mean it pissed down. Right now at 2.00pm the sky has pretty well cleared up here in South Kuta and the temperature is still a warm 30 degree’s Celsius, Humidity is at 69%. Wind direction is in fact coming out of the West up to 20km/h.
We will see more big tidal ranges over the next week with the Full Moon rising tomorrow night the 30th.
Tomorrows Surf Forecast is saying that we can expect another slight bump in wave height and more WSW-W wind.
On the Canggu Corona Virus scene it seems to be under control, from the turn off at the traffic lights on jalan Raya Canggu to the beach we counted over 120 people and pretty even between Westerners and locals not wearing face masks. It seems that European women in their mid 20’s to mid 30’s are the highest ratio for sure. Bali Has been experiencing around the 100 new cases a day the last few days and Indonesia continues to record highest numbers since the start of the pandemic this last week. On one day there were over 5,900 new cases nationally across the board for Indonesia. I think most people here in indonesia are praying that we get a vaccine here ASAP. I think it is the only thing that will save tourism.
