Hello friends of Bali and thanks again for tuning in. Well our “wet Season” is showing us it’s true colours this year. The last week has just been a blur of strong W-WSW wind with some afternoons delivering 25-30knot of on shore wind. Rain has also been in no short supply. Here on the Outer Reefs of Tuban we did see some head to almost double head high days last week but the wind killed any chance of surfing between Kuta reef and Airport left. But some mornings there has been a few sly ones on offer without too many people.
This morning with lighter wind and no rain I took a run back over to the East Coast for a look. Arriving at Keramas as the tide was running down. The wind was already coming out of the South but the waves were still clean enough in the waist to head high class. There was a bit of a turn out today being the weekend, 15 surfers at first but soon growing to maybe 25 by the time I headed back home. It was mostly overcast on the East Coast as it reflects on the photos. Hopefully through Feb we might see some better weather.
The next tide today will be a 2.3mtr High tonight. You can see the tide info for just about everywhere in Indonesia in our “surfing in Bali” drop down menu.
Our next Moon Phase for February will be
New Moon 1st
Full Moon 15th
Tomorrow’s Surf Forecast is calling for more W-WSW wind. Wave height should be similar today but starting to bump up a bit through the afternoon.
Further out we will see an increase in size through Sunday and hanging around into the start of February. Then it’s going to be more small waves for the remaining 7 day period.
On a good note it looks like our star photographer / video man Ketut will be returning to the baliwaves team in the near future. So we should be getting back to regular photos and video clips real soon.
Covid Up Date. Well I haven’t been up to writting much about this . Here in Bali now going into our 3rd year of it and absolutely no change for anyone involved in international tourism. But anyway Indonesia appeared to be doing really well, like most other countries before the onset of the new Omicron variant. It looks like it is now Indo’s turn to start seeing a massive rise in infection numbers. Only a couple of weeks back we were seeing only a couple of hundred new cases on a daily basis but as of yesterday Indonesia recorded almost 10,000 new cases. Bali was down to under double digits, today over 300 new cases.
I don’t know how the leaders will react maybe more restrictions. In Bali the booster shots of the vaccine are starting to roll out and the % of people already double vaccinated is now past 75% and just about all the school kids have also been vaccinated as well. Mask wearing is still a requirement ouitside of your house and most people are playing their part.
Tourism has been going on but under a different name with no VOA (visa on arrival) on offer. It has been called a B211 “investor” visa that costs around 300 Australian dollars. Mostly Europeans have been flying in and filling into the Canggu area. 7 day Quarantine in Jakarta is still mandatory and I have heard mixed reports of both comfort and misery. Anyone can apply for the B211 visa online.
I have seen some more fuel to keep our hope alive the last few days. Reports of direct Jetstar flights to Bali scheduled through late Feb and Virgin Air also starting back up in March. At this stage quarantine will be allowed here in Bali and hopefully even not the full 7 day stint either. But we will have to wait and see how this turns out.
