Hello everyone and I can’t believe the bad luck that seems to be free flowing my way. On the afternoon of the 23rd I was just doing what I’ve done a thousand times. Riding my sons pushbike down to the beach for an afternoon surf check. It’s only a 5 min ride down a couple of lanes that brings me out around 150mtrs back from the beach. As I rode past a little warung 3-4 dogs decided to lunge at me.
Normally it wouldn’t worry me but I made a nano decision to hit the brakes, forgetting that the brakes on this bike had just been serviced. So what happened next was that the front wheel slid out and I went down with the bike it seemed like slow motion, similar to a wounded bull elephant. The dogs shit themselves and bolted. I embarrassedly picked myself and the bike back up and attempted to continue my ride to the beach. But after only 3-4 pedal rotations i knew something was wrong and walked / limped the bike back home.
I’m just going into day 3 now, it’s been no fun what so ever hobbling around on a crutch stuck at home with at times piercing pain in my knee. But it is slowly improving and I’m hoping to get back behind the camera again very soon. It may be a bit longer before I can surf again though..
luckily the boys from Joyos G-Land Surf Camp have sent us a few more photos from the jungle and our man Ketut has been down the beach this morning and phoned me through a surf report, Kuta Reef to Airport left. First up yesterday the 24th one of our regular visitors / guests who was staying with us surfed out the front on Middle Reef. Marty was calling super fun head to over head high waves with clean off shore wind. While Kuta reef and Airport left were in the 1-2ft+ class and lot more traffic. Cpt Marty also reckoned there were plenty of waves for everyone.
This morning Ketut has called pretty much the same conditions and wave size from Kuta reef across to Airport left. 2-3ft+ waves with Middle Reef picking up the most size. Ketut also said that it was unusually quite in the way of learner surfers turning up. The tide was also running in.
Weather wise it’s a real winters day here in Bali. The temperature right now at 8.30am is still a lowly 25C, Humidity is at 71%. Wind direction is still only a light ENE at 3-5knot.
Tomorrows Surf Forecast is still on tack for Bali to see a nice bump in size with more South than West direction. Wave height should keep building through out the day. It’s pretty safe to say that by 9.00am the wind should be out of the ESE. Further out we should see another swell, slightly smaller rolling in on the 29th and providing plenty of waves through until our next system arrives on the 1st of August. So it looks like we are going to have a solid week of waves here in Bali and G-Land.
Ok friends that’s me for now I need to straighten out my leg and prepare myself for a traditional massage that I know its going to have me biting down hard on my belt.
