ISA Surf Instructor and Judging Courses to be held in Bali from 28 May – 2 June

16 May 2023, Kuta-Bali: The Persatuan Selancar Ombak Indonesia (PSOI) and the Asian Surf Cooperative (ASC) are excited to announce the first ISA educational courses to held in Indonesia since 2019, which will be held in Kuta, Bali from 28 May -2 June

The ISA Surf Level 1 Instructor course from 28-29 May, as well as the Introduction to Judging and Judging Level 1 courses from 1-2 June. The International Life Saving Ocean Rescue Course will be held with the Balawista Lifeguard’s on Kuta Beach near the Hard Rock Hotel on 30-31 May.

Course details:

ISA Surf Level 1 Instructor Course: Designed for surf instructors that will be teaching learn-to-surf lessons for beginners and early intermediate level surfers. The ISA Surf Level 1 Certification is the industry standard for surf Instructors at quality surf schools around the world. Participants will be given instruction on Roles, Safety, Equipment, Coaching Methods, Skill Development, Lesson Planning and more during the 2 Day course.

In addition, participants must complete the following requirements to receive their official ISA Level 1 Certification:

Practical requirements: Venue Analysis, Lesson Plan, Lesson Delivery and Surf Skills Test.
Have or take a Water Safety Course (endorsed by ILS Member)
Complete 20 hours of practical surf coaching under the supervision of a designated ISA Supervising Coach
Signed Coach’s Code of Ethics

The below International Life Saving Ocean Rescue course satisfies the Water Safety Course requirements, and the Rip Curl School of Surf in Sanur offers a 20 hour practical surf coaching package.

International Life Saving Ocean Rescue Course: This 2 – day course is taught by the Bali Lifesaving Department (Balawista) and is for surf instructors who need to fulfill their requirement for Level 1 Certification. They must pass surf fitness, rescue and CPR tests, and the course includes both theory and practical components along with group discussions and activities such as completing rescues using a surfboard, performing first aid, CPR, and emergency care techniques.

ISA Judging E-Learning Course (Introduction to Judging): The ISA Judging E-Learning Course, is a prerequisite for participation in a judging certification course. This course is available to anyone with an interest in competitive surfing and covers the basics of judging, scoring criteria, and rules. Participants receive a certification of completion which is suitable knowledge to shadow judge or judge local/club events.

ISA Level 1 Judging Course: This course is delivered by an ISA Course Presenter who is an expert in surf judging. The course is designed to dive deeper into judging principles and theory. You will practice comparing waves and throwing scores to prepare you to sit on a judging panel. We are combining the Judging E-Learning Course with this course as it is a requirement. After participating this course, you will receive ISA Level 1 Judging certification. Level 1 Judging certification allows you to shadow judge and/or judge club/regional events.
