Hello awesome people and thanks for checking into the original Bali surf report website and in fact the first surfing website 2nd website on line in all of Indonesia. Just for the record.
This morning the 4th driving to our Primary location in the dark with a little anxiety and anticipation of a predicted solid swell to hit Bali, possibly this very morning. So we were a little surprised to only see some 4-5 footers peeling off the point. It was still pretty good but we knew that it wouldn’t last as the tide started to fill in mid morning. It was kinda like “any minute now we are going to be seeing some big ones roll through” yeah, nah. It didn’t happen this morning. But we did snag a few waves with long waits between sets.
Just to see what was happening else where while the wind was still light and variable thought we would take the 40minute drive up to Keramas for a look. Keramas had a whole different ball game going on with some solid double head high plus waves breaking consistently. There was also a solid crowd of around 30+ surfers in the water. I thought it was dry season hehe. That’s where the majority of today’s photos were taken.
I’m thinking about now we would be seeing some more size hitting Bali on this afternoon’s low tide and hopefully still some on tap for tomorrow morning. We will be heading down for an afternoon swell check on the Outer reefs of Tuban when I get this done.
Weather wise today we have had more sunshine and clue sky with just a little early morning cloud thrown in. Right now at 4.00pm the temp is on 27V with the humidity level at 84%. Wind direction is coming out of the SE at 28km/h
The next tide today in Bali will be a 0.02mtr Low at 6.10pm
Tomorrow’s Surf Forecast is calling for what swell we have this afternoon to back off through out tomorrow until our next system arrives on the 9th. The wind is predicted to be a little stronger and the Trady kicking in a little earlier.
Just a head’s up for all the scooter riders enjoying the wind in your face scooting around Bali. Please take care and make sure you stay over on the left hand shoulder of the road. The last few days I have seen too many accidents involving scooters. This morning we witnessed a public bus driving so erratically it was criminal as he swerved in and out of lanes. In a public bus just out of Sanur on the Bypas road (Bus Number D5B) he tried to swerve around a scooter only to clip the bike and send the bike and rider cartwheeling along the road. We stopped and help the poor guy get his wrecked bike off the road. The bus just kept going. We caught up with the bus driver but he wouldn’t stop, he knew what he had done for sure. It’s a jungle out there on these roads it appears.
Heads up if you are thinking about hitting the Ments. I’ve just had a couple of friends call in after returning from a 10 day boat charter. As perfect as all the advertisements and old photos of perfect un crowded waves look. It’s not all glamour and idyllic conditions. My friends spoke of 3 decent days of waves with out too many other boats in their vicinity. They also told of steaming into stiff winds and swell, bouncing and gut slapping along for up to 15hrs straight, sea sickness and cabin feaver. But there is no doubting the beauty of the tropical Mentawai islands and perfect waves laying just off the coast of Sumatra. Booking up to a year in advance you just never know what your going to get, it’s your call.
