****MIDDAY SURF UP-DATE****
Hey surfers welcome back to the baliwaves.com and your eye’s on surfing and weather conditions here on the friendly little holiday island of Bali. No new photos just yet, they’ll be arriving around 6.00pm courtesy of Hendra and his team of photographers down at Uluwatu. Plus we might even be getting some new video footage for ya’s as well.
This mornings surf check on the Outer Reefs was still showing plenty of nice waves breaking between Kuta Reef and Airport left in the 2-4ft range (chest to head high plus). I took a close look at Kuta Reef while the tide was just starting to push in. When I hit the line-up there were only around 18-20 surfers already there with chest to head high waves bending down the reef. Manners were in place so everyone was getting plenty of waves. Middle Reef according to some friends who surfed there through the early morning lower end of the tide, was also pretty good. Breaking in the chest to head high plus sector. I didn’t take much notice of Airport left as when I got back on the beach Kuta Reef was still firing through set after set. It should be still worth another paddle after the tide peaks and starts to fall again.
Surfing conditions were clean with the off-shore ESE-SE Tradewind kicking in early, but gusting up to 15knot+.
Tidal info was saying we had a 0.6mtr Low @ 6.00am then a midday High of 2.5mtrs and finishing off the day with another reef exposing 0.1mtr Low around 6.00pm
Our sms surf report from the G-Land Surf Camp was saying that wave height was still hitting the top of Money Tree’s in the 5-7ft (double to double head high plus). At 7.30am when the report came through there were already 3 people out surfing and already one broken board claimed.
G-land; Ok the 10% discount for the early bookings into the G-Land Surf Camp has finished but I’ve spoken with the boss and he’s still prepared to give anyone who mentions baliwaves.com a 5% discount on standard, twin share and fan bungalows and a 10% discount on their air conditioned bungalows. Just mention baliwaves.com at their office and you’ll get money back in your pocket.
Weather wise today here on the holiday island there’s nothing but blue sky and sunshine heading for a top temperature of around 31-32 degree’s Celsius along the beach. The water temp is still fine @ 22 degree’s Celsius.
Swell Forecast; This new system is really only going to get us through till Friday with waves up to 4-6ft, head high plus to double head high plus depending on location. Then on Saturday backing off again. But then again on Sunday next week it looks like we’ll be in for another solid boost with a much larger system moving in on us. Unfortunately this last system has already been down graded but still should be producing some solid waves. Starting to back off through Monday and continuing to drop through Tuesday. Small waves on Wednesday before we start to see another smaller swell fill back in around Thursday.
Changing dollars to Rupiah on the streets of Kuta; –1AU$=Rp7,850 — 1US$=Rp10,050 —
Traffic Up-date, If your in a hurry try to avoid the Jalan Pantai.and Jalan Legian from early afternoon onwards. These area’s are clogged with domestic traffic and you can expect delays.
Here’s a few tips for any new visitors, 1/ don’t change your dollars to Rupiah at home, you’ll get a much better rate over here in Bali. 2/ If you need to change dollars at the airport when you arrive only change enough to get you to your hotel. The airport also has lower rates than on the street. 3/ Changing dollars with the money exchanging counters on the streets always use the vendors that display a “no commission fee” sign.
Ok then I’ll be back later this evening with the new photos and hopefully another video clip. Make sure you stay tuned through out the weekend as we are expecting some solid waves arriving anytime in the next 24-36hrs and we’ll be keeping you posted all through it.
Hey and if you like Mexican food make sure ya drop in and see Liz at Mojo’s Flying Burritos up in Kuta, you’ll be impressed by the food and the low price.
have a good one and best regards from Bali
Slim
