BALI / INDONESIA
18th August 2015
Hi peeps and thanks for dropping into the baliwaves (the original Bali surf report since back in 1999) to see what’s been happening surf and weather wise here on your first choice tropical surfing holiday destination of Bali.
Ok so we have been pretty busy with the Quiksilver Uluwatu Challenge been run and won. It was hard being in two places at the same time so I had Ketut stationed down at Ulu for the Challenge and my guests and I were surfing all over the place.
I think it was the final day of the Quik Challenge and my team was up the coast for an early morning session at Medewi. If you were keeping an eye on our Twitter and Instagram feeds you’d have known that right. We were in the water around 6.45AM with an almost empty line up and wave height in the waist to head high region, nothing awesome but still fun all the same.
Yesterday the 17th (Indonesia’s Independance Day) and we were back down at Uluwatu surfing again. As it shows in this latest photo gallery I shot wave height was in the 2-3ft+ range on the Main Peak and Temple section. There was a few sly one’s on the Racetrack while the tide was still low but not too many of those.
Today the 18th and we were up reasonably early again and in the water at Canggu by 7.00AM. More small waves again today, but if I can get a few fun waves in these small waves well I’m sure you certainly could as well. Wave height this morning at Canggu was still only in the 2-2ft+ class but surfing conditions were clean and tidy with a light off shore wind.
Looking South from canggu to “Old Mans” there were at least 50 surfers packed in there and maybe 75 more a little bit futher South at Batu Bolong. These two locations are pretty well “owned” by the surf schools and Euro learners anyway they are not your performance type waves.
I also included 20 or so photos from the final phase of the Quiksilver Uluwatu Challenge and presentation in today’s gallery.
Weather wise today here on the holiday island it’s been pretty well nothing more than just another hot and sunny day. Temperature wise right now at 3.15PM the mercury is sitting on 28 degree’s Celsius, Humidity level is on 65%. Wind direction is coming hard outta the SE at 12-15knot and straight off shore from Kuta to Uluwatu here on Bali’s West Coast.
The swell forecast for the next few days is still looking ordinary, until the 23rd when we should see some fresh un broken waves arriving in Indo. So tomorrow is looking like there’s another road trip coming on for the baliwaves crew. So stay tuned to us via Twitter and Instagram, on Facebook try, Jim Holster Reed or baliwaves.
