BALI / INDONEISA
15th – 16th May 2018
Hello everyone and thanks again for taking the time out to drop into the baliwaves (keeping you up to date with Bali’s surfing scene since back in 1999) for our latest news and as always the best possible views on surfing and weather conditions right here on the World’s No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination and gateway to Indonesia’s surfing paradise, Bali.
Ok well yesterday the 15th I was KO’d by a dirty rotten head and chest cold and spent the day at home moaning and coughing etc. But feeling better today after a run to the Dr’s and now hopefully back on the right road to recovery. I tell ya I see so many visiting surfers coughing and spluttering all the time and spreading germs and the flu. When I ask them, hey have you been to the Dr yet to sought out that cold ? there usual reply is, nah it’s not a cold just a bit of an allergy or something. They don’t know just how bad their common flu affects Indonesian’s who don’t as easily catch this bug. Usually mostly from contact with infected tourists. So please for everyone’s health if you’ve got the flu and have a trip to Indo planned make sure you get to see a Dr before you come over.
Also I just heard the news that a local surf guide from Medewi had a fatal reaction from being stung or something while surfing at “Old Man’s” just south of Canggu yesterday. The news is ot 100% clear as to what the poor guy was hit by but big chance it was some kind of box jelly, no one is sure as yet. Our condolences to the surfers friends and family.
Today the 16th and I was up early and on my way down to the south end of the island by 6.00AM, with Uluwatu as my primary destination. As it shows in today’s photo gallery Ulu was cranking as the tide was coming off the bottom and running in fast for a solid 2.7mtr High. It was tube city around the mid tide mark and even through the pouring rain the wind was still howling off shore and tubes were ridden. After the rain cleared the sun was back out and everything looking rosey with wave height in the 3-5ft range and some occasional bigger triple head high sets. As the tide filled in around 9.30AM the waves lost that intensity and there was still another hour or so to run in.
Coming home past Padang Padang and Impossibles by that time it was also looking too full and fat down the reef and I only saw it as 2-3ft along the top end of Impossible’s. It would have been smaller and fatter at Padang Padang.
Weather wise we got off to a gloomy overcast type of morning down on the southern end of the island and around 7.30AM it started to rain pretty hard for around 20-30 mins. But now at 1.30 the sun is out and the sky mainly blue, temperature wise the mercury is now sitting on 30 degree’s Celsius, Humidity is at 80%. Wind direction is still coming hard out of the ESE at 20knot plus.
Ok crew that’s me for now but I do have another surf report and photos from our friends at Joyo’s G-Land Surf Camp to load up, plus I threw up a long awaited Bodyboard gallery yesterday and I have another one ready to edit. So stay tuned right here to the original Bali surf report.
