Indonesia’s, Gold Coast/Palm Beach based Hairil “Oney” Anwar sent out a loud and clear message to the surfing world that the Indonesian’s will be a power in professional surfing by becoming the first ever Indonesian surfer to win a major Association of Surfing Professionals Pro Junior surfing event when he won the Dripping Wet Pro Junior at South Curl Curl Beach on Sydney’s northern beaches today.

After holding the successful UNHIDDEN POINT PACITAN COMP 2010 back in May, it was time for the PACITAN GROM FOUNDATION to hold a surfing competition just for the grommets. Titled the CHOCOLATE WATER GROMS BATTLE, it was held at a rivermouth (Pancer Point Break) with a long left hand wave that sometimes gets chocolate colored from the river water.

In the intense 25 minute man-on-man final of the Oakley Pro Junior at Canggu Beach in Bali today, Putra Hermawan of Nusa Lembongan posted the highest single wave score of the event, a 9.5 out of a possible 10, to regain the lead and then claim victory over Agus Frimanto, who also hails from Nusa Lembongan.

Top seeded Putra Hermawan from Nusa Lembongan blitzed his first round heat on the opening day of the Oakley Pro Junior at Canggu Beach to rack up the highest combined score of the day of 13.75 points. The next closest combined score came from Putu Anggara (Nusa Lembongan) with 11.45 points in his Round 2 heat.

Day 2 of the Billabong Pro Junior Asia Grade 5 ASP contest today at Keramas Beach in Gianyar saw Gazali Hamzah (Sumbawa) and Putu Anggara (Bali) winning their Round 2 heats today to advance and join the top seeded surfers of the event in Round 3, which includes fellow Indonesians Agus Frimanto, Putra Hermawan, and Mahardika Alit. Round 3 is scheduled to begin tomorrow morning at 7 am.
