In an exciting end to four full days of great surfing and fun at Patong Beach at the Quiksilver Thailand 2011 Surf Competition, Bali’s Raditya Rondi gave the crowded beach a clinical demonstration on smashing out big moves on even the smallest waves to claim victory in the Men’s Open Shortboard Division, winning a cash prize of 30,000 Baht ($1,000 USD) plus accommodations from Ibis Hotel and airlines tickets from Nok Air.

It was a very full day of competition under sunny skies and 1-1.5 meter waves on the beautiful white sands of Patong Beach in Phuket at the Quiksilver Thailand 2011 Surf Compitition today as the Open Longboard Division contestants got the day started at just after 8 am and running until the quarterfinals had been completed, and then the Men’s Open Shortboard Division running until almost sunset getting through the 4th heat of the 3rd round before the sun went down in the West.

The first day of the 3rd annual Rote Open presented by Billabong saw all divisions in action at Rote Island’s premiere righthand reef break of Boa Beach today, in pumping 3-4 foot waves with side to offshore winds providing a perfect setting for some extremely high performance surfing, led by Made “Bol” Adi Putra in the International Division and Lee Wilson in the Coca-Cola ISC Open Division.

Medewi Point in north Bali is always a favorite stop on the Rip Curl GromSearch circuit and the most highly competitive, as groms from Kuta, Legian, Uluwatu, Serangan, Nusa Dua, Keramas, and all the other hot surf spots in the Bali area get their chance to show their best performances to the judges in hopes of climbing onto the podium at the end of the day. For the Under 16 Division there are two spots in the 2011 Rip Curl GromSearch National Finals up for grabs, so you know there will be lots of hot surfing going down.
