**** AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE ****G’day again folks and I thought I’d just bring ya’s up ta date on whats been going down over here on the surfing scene. Well around 9.00am the wind started to pick up outta the WSW, onshore right along Bali’s West coast @ 4-8knot. And as the tide pushed up to fairly full High water mark the Outer reefs here in Tuban we’re not really surfable at all. Then to top it off the wind shifted further around to the SSW, so when I went over to Serangan armed with the video camera surfing conditions were also pretty much cross-shore and closing outish. But I have to admit there were still some solid 3-4 footers coming through for the 30 odd surfers in the water, a lot more size than what’s happening around this part of the island that’s for sure. Weather wise I was wrong about more rain to come, the sun started powering up around 10.00am and there’s been nothing but blue sky and high humidity since (now 4.30pm Bali time). I also stuck my nose back into the swell charts and the boys have made an ajustment on me and it now shows the next new swell to be arriving in something like 100 or so hours time… I also found an interesting website on strange happenings up in the Mentawai region of Indonesia. Ya can take a read for yourselves if ya want at, www.mentawai.blogspot.com sounds like there’s some real fancy stuff going on up there ? I actually advise anyone planning on heading up there this year to take a good read before ya lay any bucks down. Still no word from Made over at Lakey Peak so we’ll just have ta wait for tomorrow I guess. See ya’s then.
**** MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Good morning surfers and welcome aboard the Bali surf and weather report machine. I tell ya’s I’ve been having a few issue’s with the rain of late, it seems like (to me anyway) that everytime I go to jump on my motor bike it starts to rain. When I arrive at my destination it stops). This morning as soon as I kicked her into life, down she come. But most surfers know, that if it’s raining surfing conditions are usually clean and glassy. That’s how it looked down on the Outer Reefs this morning at 6.00am. Wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport Left still remains in the 2-3 foot range today. Surfing conditions were clean and smooth with the absence of any wind. But there wern’t no surfers to be seen while I was down there, just fishermen cleaning their nets. The tide was at the lower end of the phase but Middle Reef did have some ok head high type waves peeling off. If there woulda been more water over the reef Kuta Reef and Airports woulda been very tempting, I’m stinging for a few waves out at my local KR. Yesterday I bumped into a couple of friends who are local Tuban surfers (Tole & Sima) and they said they had a few ok type waves at the beach breaks of Padma St in Legian through the High tide, but only in the waist high class. The boys staying here with us at Home Base went to Sri-Lanka on the east side of town but ended up settling for 2-3ft+ waves at Serangan on the late afternoon to try and avoid some of the crowd. No news in from Made at Lakey Peak / Sumbawa just yet, so they might be having some mobile network coverage problems over there this morning. Outside weather conditions, the rain has finally let up (current Bali time 8.15am) but there’s still a lot of cloud hanging around and it’s quite possible we’ll be getting more rain. The outside temperature however is still hovering in the mid 20’s Celcius with the humidity level starting to creep up into the red. Alright folks I dunno what I’m gunna be getting upta today, so drop by later this evening and I might have some new stuff on the baliwaves for ya’s. Remember if your coming to Bali in 2007 don’t go booking your trips / tour or surf camps with foreign operators give the local crew the oportunity to make a dollar. Not too mention making sure the tide and conditons suit the trip first. have a good one, take care and stay happy ! Special Hello dept this morning goes to my good mates in Austrtalia Mr Kris “Pucko” Puckeridge & Mr Mark Way.
