**** MIDDAY SURF UP-DATE **** G’Day folks and thanks for dropping by the baliwaves, a bit of a late start for me I know but I was helping a couple of surfers getting over to lakey Peak (cost price). I did make it down for the early surf check, just didn’t get time to type it up. This morning wave height has dropped off slightly here on the Outer Reefs of Tuban with wave height back in the 1-3ft range between Kuta Reef and Airports. The wind was coming outa the West @ 4-7knot and on-shore right along the West side of Bali. But over on the East coast ya can expect it to be straight off-shore. These current images were cut outta the digital video footage I shot over there at Serangan yesterday afternoon and I’ll be slashing a few new video clips up for ya’s as soon as I get this report on-line. So make sure ya take a flck through the video section for the free video run down on surfing conditions. Serangan yesterday afternoon did have the occassional good one coming through, ranging from 3-5ft (or upta double head high on the surfer scale) straight out the front of the cafe’s but crowd levels were up there in the 80’s. Well that’s about where I lost count anyway. Talking to the Girvan lads from Sydney and they reckoned they scored some good waves further down South at Sri-Lanka . Looking at the swell charts and it appears we could be in for another increase in wave height starting anytime in the next 24hrs and that’s gotta be a good thing ! Surfing today you’d be heading back over to the East coast where you’ll find clean off-shore wind through until later this afternoon when she starts to swing to the SSW. I’d also say that locations like Nyang Nyangs , Green Balls and Nusa Dua would have to be in the seriously solid sector today, while Serangan and maybe even Tanjung and Sanur Reef would be more sheltered with cleaner surfing conditions. Made has filed his sms surf report from Lakey Peak from the island of Sumbawa and says that wave height remains in the 2-3ft range on Lakey Peak. No wind again this morning, making for ultra clean and glassy surfing conditions for the 38 International surfers staying in the area. Just to let ya’s know a little about the Lakey area dept: For starters the poor old hotel owner’s over there don’t have one website on-line between them. There are only booking agents who own the actual sites for the lakey area. There are something like 6-8 hotels available in the area with price’s starting at AU$7.00 up to AU$25.00 per night for a single room. Flights are easily booked from here in Bali flying with Merpati airlines and they except surfboards of all shapes and sizes at no extra cost. Once you hit Bima airport on Sumbawa you then need transport (available at the airport) for the 2hr drive to Lakey’s. If you want more info you can check out the Lakey Peak info page right here on the baliwaves menu link, or simple drop us an email. We can help get anyone across to Lakey’s at cost price, why ? because I’ve got a lot of good friends (locals) over there and I like to see them working. For that they need you over there ! The next tide is gunna be another big range High and that’ll be happening around 2.00pm this arvo. On the weather scene we did get a fair bit of heavy rain last night but it has cleared away this morning and we’ve got plenty of blue sky and good beach weather on offer. Another strange thing that’s happened around the beach’s here along the West Coast is the stink of millions of dead fish that have been washed in to shore with the worst of it around the Canggu area. But Kuta beach hasn’t been spared either, the’ve already got front end loaders on the beach trying to clean it up. On the dollar changing scene — 1AU$=Rp6,945 — 1US$=Rp8,975 –. Ok that’s about us for now I wanna start cutting those NEW VIDEO CLIPS for ya’s, and I should have em on line before ya knock off ! Stay tuned cause like I said we should start to see some more swell hitting the reefs and I’m gunna be out shooting ya’s some new surf eye candy from some where different tomorrow. If ya wanna see what the local Quicksilver Indonesia Team Grommet boys have been upto “down under” check out the “stories” section on baliwaves.com.
