6th February –
Greetings from the sunshine coast! Once again all the best groms from all ends of the earth come together for more surf competition action. Quiksilver once again hooked us up by putting us in an epic location with ocean views for the week. Its so funny, they put all the boys in one building and the girls across the road in another building. its probably worse because everyday you can here all sorts of calls being yelled across the road to each other.
We’re sharing the apartment with us is ex “King of the Groms” champion, Brazilian ripper aleho muniz who is cool as and surfs insane. Speaking of insane there was another shark attack yesterday down in Balina (about an hour south of the Gold Coast)! Some body boarder got his legs chomped by a massive Bronzed Wailer.
Back to surfing, Gazali won his first round heat, pulling around some vicious backside hacks. The kid was a definite stand out and easily the best 14 year old surfer around.
Dylan unfortunately got knocked in the first round of the competition ending his strong competitive run. The waves pretty much became unsurfable and the officials called the contest off after Dylan’s heat.
7th February –
Mustafa still hangs on as he progresses through to the third round. It was such a close heat and Mus was pretty much coming third the whole time, then in the final 30 seconds a half foot set came though and Mus was all over it and progresses through – good work son.
9th February –
Yesterday the mens division was called off because the waves got even smaller (is that possible? Smaller?) so they held the women’s division. We have a few Brazilians staying with us including shredder chick Mariana who loves getting the extra points with her revealing swimsuits. This chick is hardcore! She drives to all the contests in Australia and sleeps in her car at each location!
So today is judgement day for Mus during the 3rd round of the Billabong Pro Junior which has moved to Coolum beach due to flat conditions. Other Rippers competing today will be Quiksilver’s WCT rookie Jeremy Flores and red hot Juilian Wilson.
Go Mustafa! Hold that flag up high..
I’ll be letting you all know how he goes first thing in the morning. Hamish here reporting from the Sunny Coast.
