MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Good morning folks and thanks for dropping into the baliwaves.com for the Sunday Session . And what a good looking day it is coming on for the lucky buggers here on Holiday in Bali . To start the ball rolling I went down for look at what was happening on the Outer reefs here in Tuban at 7.00am. Expecting to see wave height down on yesterdays size, but not so. Wave height was still poring through in the 3-5ft+ (double head high plus) between Kuta Reef and Airport Left , as far as my eye’s could see. The wind at that time was coming lightly outta the North at 1-3knot. But now at 9.30am it’s shifted back to the Tradewind position and coming outta the ESE-SE @ 3-6knot and true off-shore along Bali ’s best surfing coastline, the West Coast . There was already a solid crew out on Kuta Reef with the tide reaching 2.0mtrs @ 8.00am. Surfing conditions were pretty ordinary earlier but now with the off-shore wind hitting it she’d be producing the goods. Down on Middle Reef wave height was almost pushing a serious 6ft and there were a handful of riders trying to negotiate it. Airport Left was breaking more sedately at 2-4ft+ and I reckon Airport Right would be cranking around the other side of the Airport runway. So the waves just keep on coming here in Bali . I was also taking to a couple of lads from Brazil earlier and they said they’ve been surfing mechanical barrels down at Bingin for the last couple of days on the lower end of the tide. Speaking of Low Tide’s the next one for today will be dropping out for a 0.7mtr Low @ 2.30pm this afternoon. Like I said in the intro weather wise it’s shaping up for another great day of weather and waves. We can expect the mercury to rise to around 32+ degree’s Celsius and the water temp is perfect at 24 degree’s Celsius. Me I’ve been burning the wick at both ends the last few days so I’m gunna kick back and service my camera equipment in anticipation of hopefully seeing Padang Padang breaking early next week. Thanks for dropping in today and call back tomorrow cause I think it’s time to bust out the Cannon XL2 and get ya’s some new Video Clips !
Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa; Made who works at the well known Aman Gati Hotel located right in front of the famous Lakey Peak has sms’d through that wave height is still holding in the 2-4ft range on The Peak and that there were 10 surfers in the water at 7.00am. No surfers taking on Lakey Pipe and that there was a mass exodus of surfers heading down towards Periscopes. The total number of visiting surfers in the area has jumped back to 75. Hopefully at some point in time I’ll get across to Lakey’s as I think it’s been more than 12 months since my last visit.
Kandui Surf Resort / Mentawai islands 28th April ’07 ; Winds were light out of the west this morning. Nick was the one paddling out early to catch some uncrowded waves this morning, but some boats pulled up because of the good conditions here so it got a little busy a little early. The winds backed down not long after that and the boys made a bankvaults run. I had to stay around and get some things ready for some new guests that were arriving today, so I had to give it a miss. So of coarse they scored! Amen said that it was 4 to 5 feet (yeah, he’s from
Kandui Surf Resort / Mentawai islands 27th April ’07 ; Winds were light this morning and it was hard to tell which way it was going to come up. Our swell was at least as big as it was yesterday afternoon, a little overhead on the sets. Our doctor on call right now is Larry, and he paddled out to 4 Bobs not much after light to get a solo session in. Turned out to be a very good call, getting his fill of waves before anyone else got out there. We were hoping the winds were going to come up out of the south so we could hit Hideaways, but we were kind of taking our time getting ready so we could see some signs of what the wind was really going to do. We finally got the boat together and were going to give Hideaways a look, but as we got to 4 Bobs we could see there was some west in the wind that was coming up, so we decided to play it safe and get a “safety session” in at 4 Bobs while there was no one out before we took a chance going anywhere else. Turned out to be a good call. A couple of boats ended up in our area and they told us nothing was looking good except 4 Bobs with the southwest winds. There got to be a few people in the water with those boats around, so we decided to grab some lunch. 4 Bobs is fun but we are all ready for a little more juice, so when we thought we felt a little north wind coming we made a mad dash to Bankvaults. But no luck. Straight west wind now, and pretty strong at that. Rifles? We gave it a shot. Surfed it for a little while with good conditions, but the shoulder high sets that were rolling in once in a while just were not connected, or even barreling much with the high tide. Back to 4 Bobs! Surfed it the rest of the afternoon with really good conditions and still a little overhead on the sets, but still one boat around. Looking for a little smaller surf
tomorrow.
