AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE **** Howdy folks and thanks for waiting around for your daily Bali surf and weather fix. Don’t worry it’s been a long day for old Slim too. Anyway I was down scoping surfing conditions on the Outer Reefs of Tuban around 6.30am and at the time there were waves hitting all 3 main sections in the 3-5ft+ range. The tide was on the run in for a 2.5mtr High happening at 11.00am and the wind coming outta the NNE @ 2-4knot . Kuta Reef was peeling off some nice fun sized waves in the 2-3ft+ range and there were already a handful of surfers out there . Middle Reef on the other hand was reeling off set waves upta double head high (5 footers) and I could see another half a dozen or so surfers hooking in to em. Airport Left was similar in size with Kuta Reef @ 2-3ft+ and just starting to get plenty of surfer traffic on it. I made the run down to Uluwatu to see what was going on down there, arriving around 9.00am. The first set waves I watched as I was setting up the Cannon XL2 smoked through in the 5-7ft class but went through un-ridden. The wind was still a bit funky with too much North in it but half an hour later the ESE Tradewind started to kick in and tidied things right up. I counted 36 surfers on the Main Peak and there were a few guys getting well and truly shacked. There was also no shortage of “bungy jumping practice” going on either. Down the line at Temple ’s there was one lone / smart surfer picking off some long lined walls in the 4-5ft range. But it wasn’t long and he had 3 other surfers with him for some between the set conversation. As the tide passed through the top of the high and started to run back out wave height dropped off slightly but still well over the double head high size. With a 0.1mtr Low scheduled in for 5.00pm I’m sure the Racetrack section will be cranking out some long tube rides for those keen enough to pull in. Not too mention Impossible’s or Bingin would also be firing for those who prefer slightly less intensity. Weather wise it’s been just another classic, blue sky galore and a maximum temperature of around 33 degree’s Celcius. Ok crew just remember that these current images I’ve loaded up are only low quality “frame grabs” from the digital video I was shooting. That also means I’ll have some NEW VIDEO CLIPS loaded up by tomorrow morning, so make sure ya flick through the 100+ clips already on site for a look at just how good it was down at Uluwatu today. Talk again tomorrow ok !
Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa ; Made’s sms surf report came through at 7.00am and tells of 4-5ft perfection on Lakey Peak for the 15 surfers that were in the water at the time. He also said there were 2 lone riders sitting across the channel on Lakey Pipe clocking up serious tube time. He didn’t mention anything about Periscopes but you could count on there being some good ones rocking through. No wind present for the morning session but Made mentioned it’s been getting blown out by midday when the Tradewind make’s it’s presence known. The total number of visiting surfers in the area has fallen back to 60. Well have more news from Lakey Peak again for ya’s tomorrow ok.
