MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Good morning folks and thanks for tuning in to the baliwaves.com for the start of another week here on the holiday island. Well yesterday and today for that matter, I’m suffering from a bout of the flu (just like half of Bali is at the moment) and not feeling very energetic at all. Well yesterday didn’t really count anyway because surfing conditions were still microscopic . This morning I dragged my sorry butt down for a surf check of the Outer Reefs at 7.00am and our new swell system is just starting to show itself. Actual wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport Left was pushing head high or 3ft on the freak sets . The tide was just coming off the top of the High water line, no wind at all at the time. Kuta Reef already had 10-15 surfers out there waiting for the inconsistent 1-2 footers . Middle Reef was picking up the most size with wave height in the waist to head high class, with half a dozen surfers, but still pretty inconsistent. Maybe from mid morning onwards as the tide runs out Middle’s should be improving. Airport Left was breaking at 1-2ft and also had something like 10 surfers out there. I’d like to go for a run down to Uluwatu as I’m sure there’d be a few bigger waves down on the Southern end of the island. But the way I’m feeling at the moment there’s not gunna be much chance of that. And unfortunately Dewa Made has headed home to his village for the up coming Hindu celebration of Galungan that takes place on the 27th of this month. So we’re on our own again until around the 29th. The 29th of this month also brings in the Full Moon so we’ll start to see increasing tide differences over the next week. Weather wise outside we’ve got a clear sky over us here in Tuban but looking further to the South and there’s a fair bit of cloud hanging about. My mate Dan H from Kirra Board Riders Club also gave me a bell this morning and said he took a few photos of Jamie O’brien and local ripper “Bol” putting on a jet ski assisted air show up along Seminyak shore break yesterday. He’s guuna call around home later this afternoon and load em up on baliwaves.com. So drop by again later this evening for that. We’ve got more surf reports from the good guys up at the Kandui Surf Resort in the Mentawai island chain of Sumatra , so check out their surf report page for that stuff. Ok have a good one especially if ya ain’t got the flu !!! Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa; Onky has sent through his sms surf report and reckons that wave height has also started to increase over at Lakey’s. At 7.00am there were 3ft set waves breaking and surfing conditions were clean and glassy. There were 15 surfers in the water riding “The Peak” and another 6 surfers sitting across the channel on Lakey Pipe . Plus there was some surfer traffic on the beach heading in the direction of Periscopes . Onky’s head count of the total number of visiting surfers in the area is at 60. For anyone want ing to try out Lakey Peak make sure you check the tidal information before you head over there. It’s pretty important that you line up your time there while the High Tide is happening through the early am and then progressing forward each day. That way you’ll be assured of scoring perfection. Merpati Airlines are flying there daily from Bali and you can buy your tickets from a 1000 different travel agents anywhere in Bali (and save yourselves some dollars by doing it on your pat malone) Once your in Bima there’s transport drivers waiting to take you to Lakey Peak for around Rp500,000 per van, and that’s split between the surfers. Then ya got a range of Hotels to choose from all right in front of the waves, ranging from low low budget to the very very comfortable rooms of the Aman Gati Hotel. Plus ya can always drop us an email for more information on getting across to lakey’s
