Super Bank / Australia; 11th July 07
Howdy folks..Well there’s waves here on the Superbank again today.. I ventured down for a look at the crack of dawn and was greeted by a perfect 4-5ft set peeling all the way down to Kirra.. Of course I didn’t have my camera out so I missed getting a shot. It was too dark anyway. Then I thought I would wait for the next one…. 30 minutes later …still nothing!!. So it was home for brekkie.
There were a few hardcore surfers out braving the icy conditions. When I say a few I mean about 80 in the water spread out from Greenmount to Snapper and another 50 getting ready to hit it… and the same lunatic as yesterday just wearing boardshorts.
The offshore wind was blowing straight up the point creating a bit of cross chop but the faces were still clean on the sets at about 3ft.
The sweep as usual with a south swell was pretty bad.
About 11am the tide was low and there were a few good ones out at Snapper ..mostly sand dredging triple sucking monsters . It was only 3ft but the backwash and low tide claimed a few snapped boards.. still a few guys were latching on to some good ones.
By the time the waves wrapped around into the bay they were much smaller but as usual 200-300metre rides were possible. Great for the mal riders and there were plenty of them out there.
Its still School holidays and the Superbank Is living up to its rep as the most crowded wave in the world.
The swell is supposed to peak on Friday so hopefully we’ll get some more shots for you then.
There’s heaps of sand at the moment courtesy of the tweed river bypass dredging. So mid to high tide seems to be giving the best shaped waves.
See ya out there
Dan
