Super Bank / Australia; 20th july 07
Well the promised swell has finally arrived at the superbank. First thing this morning it was about 3-4ft and now (about lunchtime) the bigger ones are 5-6ft.
Its high tide so they’re a little full at the moment but later today it should be barrelling of its head!!
The east coast is still in the grip of a cold spell and Coolangatta apparently recorded a temp of 0?Celsius this morning!!
But the positive side of this cold spell is there’s been awesome snowfalls at all the ski resorts and the whole east coast is pumping with surf!!
The swell should peak tomorrow and then drop slowly over the next few days.
Its the weekend tomorrow so as expected around here it will be packed with surfers.
The smart surfers are heading to Currumbin or Burleigh where its also cranking but the crowds aren’t nearly as bad…..seems everyone wants a piece of the superbank.
The winds are light WSW and predicted to get up to 15-20 knots from the SSW later today.
If you can get out of the wind an in the sun its quite warm.
The water temp is around 19C. That’s not so bad…. it’s the wind that seems to cut right through you when you’re out there or walking up the beach it’s Freeeeeezing!!!!
There’s a couple of pics of local legend and red hot surfer Jay Phillips today.
Jay was out there picking off the bombs and shredding as usual.
The Mac twins and Mitch Parko were also out there having a dig……Hmmmmm aren’t the school holidays over?.
Gosh boys …sorry didn’t mean to put you in.
If you’ve got the munchies drop in to Dee and Paul’s Rainbow Bay cafe and try out there burgers. The best on the coast!! While you’re waiting for your meal, check out some of the photos on the wall and you’ll see some great old shots of some of the locals … famous and some not so famous. Local guys like Mick F, Josh Kerr, Deano and Parko grew up on their chips and burgers.
Well tune in again over the weekend because it looks like the superbank is going to be firing .
Dan
