Kandui Surf Resort, Mentawai islandsSeptember 25th surf report . We could see out front that the swell was bigger this morning. The winds were blowing pretty hard out of the south, maybe south-southeast. We got a boat out to Hideaways pretty early to take advantage of the higher morning tide. There were only a couple of guys out there and the waves were firing! It was double overhead and barreling down the reef. All the guys got good waves and were charging as their vacation was on its second to last day. They surfed until the tide got too low and came back to the resort to fuel up for the afternoon session. Our second boat went to Beng Beng to surf some tamer stuff. It was a little over head there and only a couple of guys out as well, so they had a fun se ssion. In the afternoon we headed back to Hideaways. The wind was really blowing by then and still out of the south. There were still some waves, but not nearly as good as the morning. We surfed until sunset. Probably looking at fading surf tomorrow. The plan is to get to Hideaways early and see if we can repeat today’s good luck
Kandui Surf Resort, Mentawai islands September 24th surf report , The waves were looking pretty small this morning. Forecasts were for a new swell to start filling in through the day. Our first boat left the resort around midmorning and took a chance of going to McDonalds, a left on the other side of Burgerworld because the winds were east enough for it and we new we would have it to ourselves. The guys gave it a go. The waves were alright, but shifty and hard to get the right one. They packed it in before too long and hit Beng Beng on the way in. The conditions there were perfect and there were only 4 guys out. Our crew joined the fun and surfed the head high waves a long time. Finally a charter boat showed up fairly late in the afternoon so they came back for a very late lunch. Our second boat didn’t leave until after lunch. We looked at Hideaways. It was head high plus and the winds were good for it, but there were 6 guys on it so we decided to check out Nipusi and see if we could get some bigger waves with no one out. It was overhead there for sure and the wind was not super strong so the boys went for a surf there. They had it to themselves for a while, then a few others came out and the wind picked up so we decided it was Bintang time! The swell was picking up all afternoon so we are hoping for good things tomorrow!
