****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE**** Hey folks and thanks for tuning in for the baliwaves.com daily (7/7) surf and weather report website . Well after seeing Scott’s photos he shot down at Uluwatu yesterday I figured I better head down there today myself. But armed to the teeth with the Cannon XL2 Video rig. And it was worth it you’ll see as soon as I edit up the 12 minutes of footage I shot. For now just take a sneak preview of these low quality frame grabs I snatched.
And the day started off with the usual 6.00am surf check of the Outer Reefs here in Tuban. More perfect surfing conditions again today, not bad at all for off-season December I tell ya’s. Wave height between Kuta Reef and Airports was still holding in there at 2-3ft+, wind light off-shore outta the East and the tide just coming off the bottom of the Low.
Due to the low tide Middle Reef was the only section of the Outers surfable and there were some pretty good looking head to head high waves peeling off with no surfers in sight (except me). But I had Uluwatu on my mind, and why wouldn’t I. Uluwatu being the premier wave in Bali and the spot that put this happy little holiday island on the surfing map. I had the XL2 set up by 7.30am but shortly there after it commence to bucket down rain for the next 20 minutes. By 8.00am it was all good, the tide was running in for a 1.8mtr High and the wind still light off-shore. There were waves breaking on all three of the main sections of reef at Ulu and wave height was ranging between 3-5ft . Crowd levels weren’t bad at all either, at 20-30, and especially when condsidering the quality of the waves coming through. The Main Peak just kept improving as the tide filled in with some solid tube rides going down. Temple’s was looking fun at 2-3ft+ and I’m sure the Racetrack would be pumping right now as I type with 0.7mtr Low set for around 4.00pm. Of course ya woulda been able to find other waves breaking around the island on either coast, but for my money, Uluwatu was the place to be today. I’ll try and get ya’s that video footage loaded up ASAP and ya’s can see for yourself !
Weather wise, like I mentioned there was a short period of rain down on the Bukit through the morning. But other than that it’s been just another classic day in Bali .
I’m stoked that our Scholarship Program for underprivileged Balinese kids has done so well, THANKS BIG TIME to all the big hearted people who have got behind us and helped out. Now I’ve got a new program that I’d like to kick off. One that we can control and keep constant progress up-dates on. I’m talking about kinda adopting a school up in one of the area’s of Bali where there’s no cash flow from tourism and hardly any from anything else for that matter. The kids don’t have to pay school fees, because their Mum and Dad’s don’t have any money to pay. Half, or more of the kids that attend don’t even have shoes to wear to school and walk up to 4km’s bare footed or in rubber thongs just to be there. Now in my opinion this is a worthy project for us to think about. What I’d like to start off with is trying to raise enough cash to get electricity hooked up to the school, with electricity we can then look at a lot of other basic stuff, like a water pump etc etc etc.
Well Thanks to all the kind hearted folks that have helped us improve the conditions up at the Datah Primary School ! We are making some real progress with the objectives we made so make sure you check out our progress at the school via the “SCHOOL PROJECT” page over on the menue bar .
