Bali Surf Report – February 19 2008

AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE **** Hello hello my fine friends in surfing and thank you very much for droppin by the baliwaves.com for your daily surf and weather report. First up yesterday the boys and I from here at Home Base headed over to Serangan for a paddle and as ya’s may have noticed in those last photos there was definitely some solid waves coming through . Not too many surfers in the water either, but by 1.30pm the wind had shifted further around to the South and increased in strength to around 15-18knot.

Today the 19^th and my first surf check was down close to home on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban. At 6.30am surfing conditions were pretty clean and smooth with only a light NW wind @ 1-3knot. Wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport Left had dropped off a touch from yesterday but there was still waves in the 2-4ft range. We were almost out there at Kuta Reef but just as we were heading out the gate the wind started to increase from the West so we loaded the rental and headed for the East Coast .

Our first stop was at Sanur Reef . There were some occasional 4 footers peeling off at Sanur and if it wasn’t for the fact that there were already around 30 surfers in the water we woulda hit it. But instead we headed further North towards Secrets . As ya’s can see in these new photos I shot this morning wave height was hitting Secrets in the 2-4ft+ range and clean as a whistle for the first hour and a half. The left hand reef was producing the better waves while the sand bottomed beach break was also smackin through some “death or glory on the shorey” tube rides. Then the wind picked up outta the South to 12-15 knot and put an end to the fun. Also as we were leaving the swell started to increase into the 3-6ft range.

Not too many crew in the water at Secrets , only around 10 surfers in total. I also had a sms surf report from my mate Nikko who made the run up to Keramas and he reckoned that Keramas was smoking through in the 4-5ft+ range with some time warp barrels being pulled into.

Weather wise today it’s been a bit overcast and we did get a few scattered drops of rain while we were over on the East Coast. Temperature wise the mercury woulda made it to around 29 degree’s Celsius and the water temp is very inviting at 23 degree’s Celsius.

Swell Forecast. 18^th -23rd ; well we have had a good bump in SW swell today. This should continue to hold and maybe even increase in size a touch more over the next day or two. Then we should see another new system come into play and push wave height even bigger, before slowing tapering off. We also still have TC Nicholas active down underneath Indonesia, so we will have to keep an eye on that.

Changing dollars to Rupiah on the streets of Kuta you’ll find that 1US$=Rp9,100 and 1AU$=Rp8,125.
