**** AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE **** Howdy crew and yep we finally made it back to Home Base after our little road trip up to Medewi on Bali’s North Western coastline. No and we didn’t get an early morning surf recon of the Outer Reefs to see what we were going to be in for. It was just with our brains depraved of enough caffeine and rumbling gut feelings, and of course the fact it was still too dark at 4.30am to see anything.
We made the overtaking maniac truck and bus driver filled highway journey and arrived at Medewi around 6.45am to see 2-4 footers peeling off for at least a 100yrds and no other surfers yet in sight. The wind was blowing clean off-shore outta the ENE @ 2-3knot while the tide was just coming off the bottom of rock bottom exposing Low tide .
So for the first hour there was just the four of our crew in the water before we were joined by 3 other surfers. We scored plenty of good waves in the 2 hrs we surfed before giving into the needs for caffeine and breakfast. The tide filled in super quick and before we knew it the wind turned light on-shore so we threw the boards back on the roof and headed down to Balian for a geezer.
Balian was picking up more swell with the set waves pushing 4-5ft . The wind was also light on-shore there but there was still a few good right handers peeling off for 10 or surfers in the water. And NO, we won’t be going back up there again tomorrow…lol.
Weather wise it’s been mainly sunny with the odd cloud drifting across and temperature wise it woulda easily reached 30-31 degree’s Celsius outta the shade. Right now at 3.30pm there’s still no sign of rain and the wind has shifted back to the ESE-SE and off-shore from Legian to Uluwatu.
Ok so have a good one and we hope to see ya’s out there in the line-up somewhere in Bali this year…
On the 18th I made it up to visit the DATAH PRIMARY SCHOOL . While I was there we discussed the proceedings for the repairs to the old existing wall and New Gate and entrance way into the school. The total cost of this was calculated at Rp13,270,000.00 (AU$1,350.00 give or take a dollar) including labour costs. I presented Rp11,500,000.00 to the school committee to get the ball rolling. And we still have enough left in the Kitty to complete the project. Work will start tomorrow the 20th of March and is estimated to be completed within a months time. Then we’ll start work on paving their assembly area, but one job at a time. So by my next visit to Datah Primary I’ll get you a full report and some photos of the progress. I also took up with me on yesterdays visit 100 new exercise books and a heap of pens, pencils and colouring pencils for the kids. NEXT VISIT TO THE SCHOOL WILL BE AROUND THE 28TH OF MARCH
Another thing I couldn’t help but notice while I was on the beach, was the increased amount of beach front damage that’s happened at the Pantai Restaurant / Ma Jolley and Bali Bintang Ramada Hotels . You can see the photos I took of the destruction in the KUTA CAM GALLERY . The place looks like a war zone….
