****MIDDAY SURF UP-DATE**** Howdy to all you surfers tuning into the baliwaves.com for your daily fix of Bali surf and weather info. And just like it reads in our swell forecast wave height started to lift a bit last night and this morning we are rolling in it.
My 6.15am surf recon of the Outer reefs here in Tuban was looking real good with a solid looking 3-5ft+ of solid swell hitting between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. That was at 6.15am and by 7.15am wave height had continue to build into the 4-6ft+ sector. The first of the tides today was a 2.4mtr High just ater 9.00am and then we will have a 0.3mtr Low @ 3.30pm. And with the Full Moon set to rise tomorrow night this swell is gunna get the full benefit of the total tidal range on all the reefs around Bali . To start the day rolling there was no wind up until around 8.00am before the ESE Tradewind kicked in cranking it up into the 6-10knot strength.
As ya’s can see in these latest photos I’ve loaded I was sitting in the channel at Kuta Reef with my 600mm lens. Wave height on Kuta Reef was pushing the limit @ 3-5ft+. The freak sets were just a bit too much for this reef to handle but the in between set waves were peeling off for a good 80yrds+. As always when the swell hits Bali Kuta Reef gets more than it’s fair share of surfers with most of the other locations too big or just not handling the new swell. And today was no exception with up to 60 surfers spread across the lin-up and no shortage of bad behavior (drop ins) from the boys on holiday.
Middle Reef which has been consistent all week but with solid crowds of up to 35 surfers on any given day was brea king in the 4-6ft+ range and only half a dozen takers…
Airport Left was pretty well maxing out with wave height in the 3-5ft range and also quite a few riders in the water. I nev er got a look at Airport Right but buy the number of boat loads of surfers heading in that direction it musta been pretty good as well.
Uluwatu woulda had to have been producing waves in the 6-8ft+ range and I’d even have to imagine that Padang Padang would have a wave or two later this afternoon when the tide bottoms out.
Scar Reef / Sumbawa ; I had a phone call from some friends of mine who have been over at Scar Reef for the last 2 weeks and the boys said the swell wasn’t showing over there as yet. But nev er the less they still had 3-4ft of clean Scar Reef for breakfast.
Weather wise , Perfection !!!
Swell Forecast (15th – 22nd June) Well after taking a long look at the available swell prediction sites it looks like for today and most of tomorrow wave height will be remaining in the 2-4ft range depending on location of course. Then late Monday or possibly Tuesday we’ll start to see the next swell hitting the reefs of Ind onesia . I’m pretty sure by Wednesday we are gunna be seeing some very solid waves in the double to quadripple over head size. Wave height will settle down a touch, but not too much come Thursday then continuing to taper off through Friday. Then next weekend there’s gunna be more action with arrival of a second swell pushing wave height back into the 5-6ft+ sector. So get ready for it and if your gunna be here in Ind onesia then ya had better stay tuned to the baliwaves.com for the daily coverage.
Ok As ya’s may have noticed… these current photos are just a few of the one’s I shot from my little 3 day excursion to Scar Reef at the end of last week. I’ve also managed to put together a little 2 minute video clip from Scar’s but I had to slow down the speed because I was filming “hand held†from a rocking boat. But anyway I still think it looks ok and it sure as hell does give you a good idea of the power of a solid wave at Scar Reef on the island of Sumbawa .
Drop me a line if your interested in getting on board a 9.5mtr high powered ocean speed boat if you want to surf locations like Desert Pt, Scar Reef, Supersuck, Yo-Yo’s without having to wait days to get the their the old way. I’m thinking this type of trip is gunna be the New Way to hit Lombok and Sumbawa instead of the old 7 day slow boat system. Especially when it’s priced around the same range but doubling the amount of surf time !
And just a reminder that we still have some baliwaves.com T-Shirts and stickers available for ya’s here in Bali so drop me a line.
Mentawai islands ; The good guys from the Kandui Surf Resort have sent us through another new batch of photos showing off more perfection in their part of Ind o. And you’ll be able to suss them out in the Surf Report section. Here’s another baliwaves bonus for ya’s dept; Anyday now we’ll also be providing ya’s with surf reports and photos from the Macaronis Surf Resort up in the Mentawai’s. I was talking to a couple of friends yesterday who have been out on charter in the Ments and they reckon if they ever make it back up there again they won’t be going on a boat after stopping off in the Surf Resorts. That’s where they’ll be heading. The Surf Resorts up there just make it all too easy for their guests with speed boats to zap you around all day and then back to the Resort for R & R in the evenings.
G-Land ; I had a pnone call from G-Land this morning and Raymond said to tell you guys and girls that he’ll give you 15% discount off the published price. Just click on his G-Land banner over in our banner advertisement section and drop him an email.
