Kandui Surf Resort July 25th surf report
We had plans to go to Telescopes today. We rarely go there, but many of our guests were not into surfing big Kandui’s or Hideaway’s so this was a good option for them. Telescopes does not break quite as hard and it has a good channel. But, wouldn’t you know it, a storm popped up just after dawn and started blowing west, then north winds. We were ready to pull the plug on the Tele’s trip, but the guys were still willing to take a chance on it so we sent the boat. Good thing too because the wind switched around a half an hour latter and went southeast. By the time our guys had arrived, the waves had cleaned up and there were only 4 guys out because the stormed that passed by had scared everybody back to their boats. Our crew scored some good ones there and stayed all day. Meanwhile, back at the resort, the west winds turned to southeast as well and it wasn’t long before Kandui was clean and we were out there! There were some solid double overhead plus sets. There were some good ones to be had, then the winds started to turn more easterly, then northeast. That is still offshore, but it blows into the barrel and makes ribs in the face, just adding to the already high danger factor! The last wave to be caught was Amen’s hell barrel that looked like it wanted to eat him because the ribs in the wave made for a toothy looking lip as he sat way back in the pit! Awesome! I promise to send pictures. In the afternoon, it was Ebay again with similar conditions, but bigger than yesterday and lots of fun! Expecting a little smaller surf tomorrow.

The wind was about as strong as yesterday, around 10mph or so, and it was coming a little more out of the south. We bypassed Kandui knowing it would be sideshore, and headed straight for Hideaways. It was looking petty good there with some overhead sets, and it increased all morning until there were solid, double overhead sets rolling through. Finally, the tide got too low and we called it quits. Our second and third boats split up and went to Beng Beng and Ebay. Beng Beng was good at first, but it ended up getting too big for that spot to hold, so the boys packed it in. Ebay just got better and better as the day went on and the guys surfed it for something like 5 hours! One of the guests told me that it was one of the best days of his life! The low tide and there growling stomachs finally drove them home in the late afternoon. We are looking for this swell to increase overnight.
