****MIDDAY SURF UP-DATE**** Hey crew thanks for hanging out for the baliwaves.com daily (7/7) surf and weather run down. And I think these current photos are the kinda waves ya’s wanna see associated with the name Bali.
This morning I took my first surf recon of the Outer Reefs at 6.30am and was pretty happy to see 2-3ft waves breaking between Kuta Reef and Airport Lefts. The old yo-yo effect to be precise. The first of our tides today was a 0.9 around the midday mark and then we’ll have a 1.2mtr High around 6.00pm. Wind direction today has been as usual coming outta the ESE-SE. But unlike the previous days and weeks even she was no where near as strong and only reaching gusts of upto 7-10knot.
Kuta Reef was still only breaking in the 1-2ft range this morning and not quite big enough to produce any real KR type waves.
Middle Reef was looking ok with chest to head high waves with the occasional bigger reak set every now and again. There was also a pretty good crowd of around 15 surfers in the water by 7.00am.
Airport Left was also breaking in the chest to head high class and probably looking the best out of the three main sections of the Outer Reefs.
Canggu ; I had a friend sms through at 7.30am to say that Canggu was only breaking in the waist to chest high plus range but still some clean little waves coming through.
Impossible’s ; Cruising past Impossible’s on the way down to Uluwatu this morning there were some 2-3ft lines bending down the reef towards Bingin and maybe 20-30 surfers spread through them.
Bingin would have been delivering some perfect little mechanical barrels around midday as the tide bottomed out.
Padang Padang , flat.
Uluwatu ; Just by flicking through these photos I shot this morning anyone can plainly see that it was just a shear tube riding fest going down on the low tide Racetrack section. We arrived down there around 8.30am to find a fairly solid crew of around 50 surfers spread out between the Main Peak and Racetrack sections. But as the tide kept dropping so did the number of surfers in the water. I tell ya’s, with my camera capable of 8 frames per second I shot way too many photos. The first 3 photos featuring the tube master (Ketut Pitur) were only 3 frames from a total of 32, and all of them were pretty well while he was inside the barrel. If you came to Bali to get tubed and were not down at Uluwatu today then you blew it.
Weather wise it was a rainy start to the day with some heavy rain just before dawn. Then there were still a few light showers through until midday. But now at 2.00pm it’s back to blue sky here in Tuban
Swell Forecast (24th – 30th) Well I’m sorry to say that it’s not looking to good over the next week folks. More of these small waves in the waist to head high range over the next 4-5days. At this stage it looks like sometime around next Saturday we’ll see some decent swell on our reefs. Anyway I’ll be keeping an eye on the waves for ya’s and will update if there are any changes.
Bali Fishing New’s ; Yesterday I finally got around to loading up some of the photos I’ve taken of some of the fish we’ve caught over the last 4 weeks. Plus a bit of a run down on what we’ve been up to. You can find that on our Fishing Report Page in the Reports Menue.
Exchange Rates ; Well the way the Australian dollar has been crashing the last couple of weeks it’s been hard to say what it’s doing today but it would be still ranging between Rp7,800 – Rp7,900 depending on location. While the US$ is still pretty stable at Rp9,100.
G-land, drop us an email if you want to cash in on the 10% discount offer at the G-Land surf camp.
The boys from Kandui Surfing resort in the Mentawai’s have also sent us some sick sick photos of there recent swell and you’ll find those on there surf report page. Plus the crew from Macaroni’s Surf resort have also sent us new photos and surf reports from their part of the Ments.
We also have a NEW Home Base guest house close by to Airport Left and the other breaks of the Outer Reefs, 5 min walk. This place is more private and spacious with big air conditioned rooms, hot and cold water, tv and plenty of off street parking all enclosed in Balinese style. The rooms are AU$16.00 for a room with big double bed and AU$30.00 for a twin share room
And just a reminder that we still have some original baliwaves.com T-Shirts (AU$13.00) and FREE stickers available for ya’s here in Bali so drop me a line.
